Not getting my period, I have PCOS

First of all, I have PCOS, I take metformin 3x a day 500mg. I am on BC, I do not want to get pregnant anytime soon but I haven't gotten my period this week, when I should have since I was on the sugar pills on my BC.

I've heard metformin stops your period- does this mean I should stop my BC or could I get pregnant if I cut it out?

I've heard you don't need to get your period in order to get pregnant and the Metformin makes you VERY fertile.

Also now I am afraid that it'll be harder for me to conceive when the time is right for us.

Anyone with similar situations that could ease my mind?

I really don't have much advice but I can tell you my story. I have PCOS as well. I started metformin in April 2010, hoping it would start my period and get my cycles back to normal. I was TTC at the time. It did nothing to help regulate my period, I still needed other meds to start AF, it did not make me any more fertile since I was not getting my period. I have not heard that it can stop it as I went on it to try and start it.

Sorry, hope you get answers soon!

My coworker was on Clomid and Progesterone for months TTC and NOTHING- no period, no ovulation detected.  They decided to stop TTC because of her DH trying for a new job, and she was just taking Metformin for other PCOS-related symptoms.  She had her first period in years a few weeks after starting it and then she got an unplanned BFP after on just Metformin. :)  It can happen...

Metformin doesn't stop your period. Metformin in a drug used for diabetics to regulate their insulin. Many pcos girls are insulin resistant and that's why it helps us. So metformin is now used on pcos girls to regulate their insulin so that their body can ovulate on it's own. You're right you don't need a period to get pregnant but u do need to ovulate which is something that pcos girls don't do (or hardly do). So all u need to do is catch that egg when ovulating to fertilize it. If it's not fertilized then it WILL become a period (unfertilized eggs that have gone through ovulation become periods). I hope this makes sense!

My OB said it wasn't good because the lining can build up if not shed during AF.  It's probably a good idea to chat with your OB and see what he/she recommends!
