NWR - Austin Ladies! Need Travel Advice

Hi ladies,

My husband and I are coming to Austin in May. We've never been before so can anyone recommend a bed and breakfast, places to eat, shop and what to see and do while we're there for a long weekend?

Thanks!!!

I'm from Austin! It's pretty much the best, ever.

Are you looking to stay downtown, or close to? If you're wanting the Austin Experience, The Austin Motel is right on South Congress and is a pretty chill place located near some great shopping and dining. There are all kinds of B&Bs and I don't really know a bad one. If you'll be walking a lot, just try to stay West of I-35, north of Oltorf, South of MLK, and East of Mopac- that's the "downtown/central" area of the city that is decently walkable, and if not walkable, definitely rideable by train and bus!

Good places to eat are never in short supply! I definitely reccomend Max's Wine Dive on 3rd and Trinity for a nice place to eat, there are a ton of amazing food trucks all over the place. El Arroyo is my favorite Tex Mex spot and they have cheap yummy drinks. Iron Works BBQ is right downtown and gives you some great classic Texas BBQ.....oh man, I could go on and on, I love my city! Feel free to PM me with any questions about specific stuff!

If you're outdoorsey at all, make sure you check out the Barton Springs Greenbelt, Zilker Park and Botanical Gardens, and Mt. Bonnell!

Hi jennypaul! Yes, we want to stay downtown. We've heard so many good things about Austin and i've never been to Texas so we're checking it out. Thanks for the recommendations. We'll be walking it most of the time. My husband is a BBQ fanatic so he'll be all over the BBQ recommendations.

Thanks again!

Chuy's for tex mex as well!!! And Texas Rib Kings was one of our favs, though if you've never been to a Rudy's that is pretty awesome, too.

My husband did his undergrad in Austin, it is beautiful! If you get a chance, the UT campus is pretty sweet. there is a really good Thai restaurant, as well as a mellow mushroom (pizza) by the campus, too. Also, the Presidential Library is on campus! :) We also did a capitol tour, that was really neat.

Hope you have lots of fun!
