NWR: Heavily considering moving to Charlotte and the end of the year.

I am in need of a serious change. So after starting my new life with my new husband in the fall, I am finally ready to leave New York.  Never thought I could leave my dad (we are super close) but he has a wife.  She can step up and take care of him so he doesn't rely so heavily on me.

We are considering Charlotte.  My best friend recently moved to Myrtle Beach and she is trying to get us to go there.  Her uncle owns a bunch of condos and we could rent one until we are ready to buy a home.  I work for Time Warner currently and our headquarters is in Charlotte - so with that move I am guarateed a job.  In Myrtle Beach - not so much.

I know a few people who moved from NY to Charlotte, or has at least visited and everyone seems to love it.

Anyone here live in Charlotte? What is the cost of living like? When looking for places to live what are the best areas to look? My son is 4, so he will start kindergarten in 2014 so I would like to know what areas have the best school.

Also where are the best eateries and shopping?! LOL.

FI and I may go early June to go to MB to see my best friend and drive the 3 hrs to Charlotte for a couple days to look around.

Any advise or input would be greatly appreciated.

How exciting! I think it sounds like you've weighed your options and that it's the right choice! I don't know anything about Charlotte, but you can always check out zillow.com and check different home prices around the neighborhoods that way. I love doing that! As for schools and what else, zillow does tell you what schools are near each home and what else is around there, however, it doesn't tell you how good of a neighborhood it is!

Good luck!

Sounds exciting! My best friend lives in North Carolina and is currently in Charlotte. I just checked facebook to see if she was online, but she wasn't. As soon as I find out I will let you know!
