NWR - Job vent

I just applied for several positions internally with my company. I love my job but I'm looking for something that pays a little more and challenges me - I want to feel like I didn't waste all the time and money I spent on college!!

HR requires that  you inform your current manager that you applied, in the past positions I've held in this company that was as simple as a quick "Hey, I did this" and they say "Cool".

This time - my manager almost got mad at me. He said "You've only been here a year, why would you want to move??" I told him because I hired (by his predecessor, someone I like INFINITELY more) with the expectation that I would be moved up within a short time...that hasn't happened and this guy just told me that wasn't his understanding and "we can't ever know what will happen tomorrow".

Gee - you think maybe that's why I'm looking elsewhere? Because if he won't support me, I pretty much need to do it myself!!

Now I feel almost embarassed that I said anything, and I shouldn't have to feel that way, there is nothing wrong with wanting  to better yourself and your career.

Argh!

Oh that stinks! You should not feel bad about doing something to better yourself and to make yourself happier. Hopefully you'll get a new position soon! :)
