NWR - Party planning help wanted!

Okay ladies, here's a challenge for your brilliant, creative minds!

FI and I LOVE Halloween. We love to have a Halloween party. We were just talking about how we're so tired of boring Halloween parties with plastic spiders and apple bobbing and punch and ahem "adult costumes" (I defended them, he doesn't like them...) so this year we decided to have a "Phantom of the Opera party" where black tie is required, white tie and tails is requested, whoo! Okay so any ideas for a good themed Halloween party?

Oh I love that idea. I have always wanted to have a masquerade but I do not know how it would play out for halloween.

For a Phantom of the Opera theme, I see invitations on sheet music paper, perhaps rolled and sealed.

I picture velvet curtains and the red rose that is on all of the posters.  If you do a dinner, you can put one at every place.  If not, put them alone in single bud vases around the room.  Black and white decorations with only the red rose accents.  Candleabras.  To make it more ethereal, maybe a fog machine.  But in small areas, they smell.  Dinner can be French to match the theater where the story took place.  If you are not having dinner, serve wine and cheese fancy cheese on fine china.  If you do velvet curtains somehow, you can have them pulled open and project the movie without sound on the wall between the curtains like it is a play.

Either play the music in the background, or if you want to go all out, hire an opera singer.  (Want to fly Lori back?  :) I'm sure she has an idea of who to call though)

Have you ever seen the 'real' wedding where some of their theme/decor was Phantom of The Opera? It was where I got a few of my ideas from- but it was similiar to Pinkgerbers ideas, with the reds/burgundy drapery, red roses, gold masks, etc...

I'll see if I can find pictures...

haha I love it Pink! I need to check how large a room needs to be before the fog machine gets stinky. Do you know off hand? I was thinking of hiring a solo violinist, they can sound so eery. Anyone seen any inexpensive candleabras while wedding planning?? I love the roses too Pink, I've only read the book but I need to order the film from 2004 for visuals!

Sarah, I love masquerade balls, I was thinking of ordering a bunch of cheapy masks from Oriental Trading and putting them by the door - masks required :)

The linen company that I am using did their linens too- I originally found their wedding in a magazine- but there are 5 pictures of their wedding on the first page in their gallery (can't post them for some reason?)

I got invited to one that was a "Tarantino" theme. So everyone had to dress as a character from one of his movies.... thought it was an interesting idea
