NWR: Temecula

ok so most of you know that fh and dont live together... i live in the bay area and he lvies in long beach...

we are now thinking of where to live once we're married, and he suggested temecula (ugh!) since it's about an hour to his job and 45 minutes drive for me to visit my boss, if i need to...  i am hooked up at home and dont commute now - i just plug in and work... but on those occassions when i do need to go in - he thought temecula was a nice compromise for the 2 of us...

the only thing is i do not want to live inland - what's the point of moving to socal and not live by the water, kwim??

no offense to anyone who lives there now, but it's just not my idea of living in socal.  my old apt was 5 minutes from the beach and i lived pretty central to everything - i dont like the idea of living inland - but then temecula has great prices on homes right now...  we could probably get one close to free...

long beach to chino is about 40 minutes for him; and i totally woulnt mind living in lbc - but temecula???  no way...    aarrgghh - but then he makes a great point in that it's not forever...

fffffck! help me feel better about this...  nothing is set in stone - we're still in pre-lim stages, but he and i are already both so adamant about our positions about this.

No- I COMPLETELY understand where your coming from!  I have a recommendation- rent there first...  My sister and her FI bought a house there and it didn't work- and they were stuck since they were 'owners' you know? Just a thought...  I couldn't live there b/c I can't handle the heat!

With the market the way it is right now you could possibly find somewhere closer to the beach...?

You never know- with your jobs situations and happily married- it could be just fine!

- HMM :)

don't do it!  Sorry, if I sound like a snob but if you're used to beach access, this area inland will kill your spirit!

and Holy Moly has a point. we just bought a place and the realtor told us that everything in the outlying areas like Valenica and Temecula are just sitting on the market. The only drastic reductions she is seeing is outside LA.

I love Long beach-  it has so much flavor and diversity. I lived there in college (went to CSULB)  can you not stay there?

THANK YOU!!!  before he hung up on me tonight - he told me i was being a snob! WTF??

um it's not like i'm asking to live in freakin monarch beach or coto.. wth!?!

maybe we'll try the renting thing - i just dont wanna miss the chance to jump on a good deal elsewhere kwim???  i KNOW i cant take the heat!  i cant take the heat where i live now - same distance to san fran from where i live as temecula to the beach down there... so yeah it's like my face is melting some days...

and i want to be close to my friends and my God-daughter...

you're totally right J, we should just rent and let the $$$ earn a little more interest til we take the plunge...  he's so not good with heat either! hahahaaha

omg! seriously!  i graduated from LMU - so living close to everything was what i got used to and i wouldnt mind living somewhere near LMU again or close to State; carson's got nice areas now near Cal State DH also - right off the 405...

that's why i'm so grumpy now - living inland from the water and San Fran... but honestly, Norcal is not me bag baby...  it's nice but just not for me...

i dont think i'm being a snob either - and i really hope i'm not coming off as one...that's not my intention - i dont think i have a snobby bone in my body =)

i actually wouldnt even mind if he just got a 2 br in his building now where he is in LB to rent for a year or so... aaaagh!!!

where the fck is the calgon to take me away???

hi dirty. Totally rent there first like HMM said. That's recommended usually when you buy a home in any area that is new to you. Unless of course its like Laguna Beach and you know you'll love it.

But I actually like Temecula. Maybe its because Glen Ivy is there. LOL. But its so spacious and open. Yes its desert but it seems to have a nice community of families, nice homes, and low crime. You're not outrageously far from the beach. Its within driving distance.

I mean, wouldn't you rather have a huge house with a huge lot so your little chillens can run around and play all day? Or would you rather have them cooped up in a smaller house more "central"? You gotta start thinkin about the kids!

oh D1rty....we are going to be in the same dilemma when we move back to CA....but we've already decided that we are going to have to sacrifice space to be closer to the ocean...i think we'll have to sell most of our furniture...but i agree.....try renting first to see if you like it!!  hopefully we can be neighbors in OC or LA County... :)

MARE!!!!  you sound like fh!!  "what about when we have kids - i dont want them or us worrying about drivers speeding in the neighborhood while they ride their bikes"! AAAGGGHHHH!!!  you're like the logical voice of reason or something!  =)

jackie--> gurl, i already know i'm gonna lose my mind inland! oh well, we'll see...  i dont really have to commute to carlsbad everyday - it's where my boss is, and as long as we meet once a month - i think we're good...  so i just have to make sure that is really the case...it's not like our setup isnt working now ya know?  i'm really hoping he doesnt want me to commute everyday - if that's the case then we can stay in LBC, b/c fh's commute to chino from his apartment now is about 40 minutes (he leaves at 515am)...

another idea:  San Pedro.

it used to be longshoremen and not the nicest area BUT it has gotten better and it is close to the ocean and not expensive. In the same way that Culver City became hot property- Pedro is a the same sort up and coming vibe

no offense to anyone, but when it comes between the community, i'd choose Temecula over SP ANY DAY. I don't even like driving near SP. Yes, i guess that makes me a snob. it jsut rubs me the wrong way! The same thing with Harlem. Everyone says its going to be as expensive as Upper West Side one day. I'm like "I DONT CARE I WOULD NOT LIVE THERE". haahah. I'll be kicking myself in a few years i'm sure but i'm cool with that.

I was in San Pedro yesterday and there are some really sweet neighborhoods-  hilltop, over looking the ocean. I know what you are saying WM  but it's a less expensive ocean option. And as people die off, the area will get better with younger homeowners

and Dirty-  Mar Vista is already hot(ish).  My friend bought a 2500 sq ft house for $250,000 about 8 yrs ago and last I heard  ( a few yrs ago)  it was already @ $800,000....

Dirty~ I am living up in Corona right now. It's a very nice area, you might consider (renting for now) and see how you like it. I have gotten use to it after living in the O.C. for about 17 years. The heat will always be a issue anywhere you go (but it's Cali, so I don't think anyone would change it for anything). It is close to Chino, maybe less then 30 minute drive. The only down fall to living in the inland empire is the 91 fwy. I deal with it everyday driving to work to and from Irvine, but you get use to it. I won't be living inland after I get married b/c my FI works mainly in Newport Beach so it just wouldn't work. We are looking for nice areas in Orange and Anaheim (If I find anything I will let you know!!).

WMForever~ I love Glen Ivy!!! That is one of the reasons I don't mind living in Corona. If I need a relaxing day, I just drive over to Glen Ivy Spa!!

THANKS for all the suggestions gals =)   makes me feel better about picking this battle =)

we'll see how my discussion goes with my boss...  i told fh i could live in encinitas or escondido or carlsbad (where my boss is) but then that would make fh's commute more than an hour - and i'm not making him drive that commute - i'm not a complete a-hole =)

i'm pretty sure we can live in LBC and i can just drive to carlsbad once a month to meet with the boss...that's what we do now -except he just flies up to san fran to meet with me...

i'm all over MarVista honestly!  there's a new-ish 'hood right below LMU - on the huge lot that used to belong to howard hughes - i wouldnt mind buying a condo or townhome there for our first years...  altho MARE brings up a great point about the little tots (when the stork delivers them)...

well, i'm not going to overthink this for now...

any other suggestions - feel free to sound off - b/c i feel really torn about this... =)

and that is so sad that they're developing that land below LMU! For the longest time it was a protected wildlife reserve! :(
