NWR: worried.

So I sit here itis 9:02am (est).  I am waiting for FI to get ready (funny right?) and we are going to Atlantic City to see Anthony Bourdain and spend the night.  Have a great night on the town, dinner, gamble a little and a little hanky panky....however, last nite he comes home from work almost in tears.  He is going to quit his job!!! I am so upset - not at him, just the situation.  This punkass who was prolly hired days before him is the "executive" chef and it went right to his head.  He has been yelling at everyone and more so my FI nonstop and he just can't take it.  It is a brand new restaurant they are doing GREAT! but last nite was his breaking point.  He was on the line cooking, and the "head" is yelling at him, so FI says I quit-takes it back and finishes the night out.  Mind you today is the wedding that he was supposed to work, but they told him he didn't have to and we could go to the show.  ASSHOLE calls him at midnight and says you better be in at 4pm tomorrow (which is today)..WTF kind of move is that?? I don't want him to quit - this place is full of opportunity the owners are GREAT!, but he can't work with someone like HEAD.  So now...here I sit, bittersweet of our overnight, and I am gonna be thinking about "money, money,money"...eyahhh...jerks i swear.

That felt good! :)

Update - so now he tells me he is going to call Head and simply tell him he can't make it and that he will talk to the owner in person.  I wanted him to call the owner, because I know how people can be - VINDICTAVE.  I just don't want him to roll over and take it in the pooper - ya know?

Aw I am sorry, I think your FI should write to the owners. They need to know that this manager is creating a terrible environment to work in. Being a chef is probably as high stress as it gets and they dont need some a** hole yelling at them while they are trying to get a meal cooked in 5 minutes!

KP - after all the emotional roller coaster you went through earlier about this big day... I'm so bummed for you!!!  Exec Chef are notorious for being a screamer, and it appears the new dud...sorry dude is marking his "territory"...   I know it's hard... but TRY to enjoy your time with Bourdain & AC getaway...

Oh man, I used to work in a 5* restaurant and the line can be a scary place. You take a lot of heat back there figuratively and litarally. I definitely think he needs to talk to the owners and hopefully they will have an unbiased opinion...good luck!

Oh boi... sorry to hear the troubles... yes, encourage him to call the Owner with a headsup because some people can be very vindictive if they wish... wishing you the best!

Definately wishing you the best. I hope he's able to talk to the owner and get his voice heard. I have heard that exec chefs can be serious ball busters, but it can only be taken so far, especially if it made your FI want to quit. I hope everything works out.

BTW, was Anthony Bourdain performing or cooking in Atlantic City? DH and I are huge fans of his show and his books. What does he do where you can see him in person? Thanks.

Good luck!

Ugh...that seriously sucks for both of you. What an a-hole, his di#@ is probably tiny and he's trying to make up for it - LOL. I hope everything works out and I agree with you - he needs to talk to the owners first, before a-hole gets to them. Hang in there and enjoy AC!! (I work in AC at the hospital there!)

Thanks Guys!!  A.C. was great, Bourdain - AMAZING...Eventhough we were in the nosebleed section -still great.  He made 2 dishes and told personal stories throughout and then had a brief Q&A in which people asked so many stupid questions hahahaha!!  So here I am home now, trying NOT to ride his ass to go talk to the owners.  I am just so upset b/c this place had so much potential for HIM and it is a 10min walk from our house, etc etc etc.  On our way down he called the head to say listen dude, I'm not going to be able to make it in (it was for a WEDDING - not even a regular work day ya know what i mean)?  AND I am still amazed that he went back on his word and said he had to come in.  So head got mad and said well it is your responsibility, etc etc and FI said hey you said that I could have off and now for some reason you said I have to come after we made plans, and then head hung up on him.  Like budoh said - he is Definitely marking his territory and I think he is threatened by my amazing chef FI!

MUAH!

kp - I am sothrilled you had a great time at Bourdain... He's AWESOME! A friend of mine who is in F&B went to the same event, and he said the same thing about the silly questions... All he does now is brag about his autographed book.

site note: in case the new Exec Chef pulls this again, demand him to reimburse all of your travel expenses that you will lose due to last minute cancellation... (hotel deposit, tickets to entertainment, flight - if applicable)... see if he changes his mind...
