OBGYN today and new meds

Just got back from my doc appointment. Results are back and I definitely have pcos. The prometrium induced a period (as I posted before) and so doc was happy about that. We decided to try metformin, it's usually given to diabetics for insulin regulation, but sometimes used for PCOS as an "off-label" use. It's known to clear up acne, aid in weight loss, and regulating periods and ovulation!

Doc said we need to be careful if we do not want to get pregnant because she has had 45 year old women with pcos that go on this and get prego the next month! I explained to her we are not actively TTC yet, but we would be estactic if we were blessed with a BFP before next november!

So I start the meds tomorrow, the main side effect is extreme nausea but that's supposed to get better the longer I take the meds. Hopefully I will be regular and start ovulating!

OH also! I lost 4 pounds in the last three weeks! I haven't really been trying either. Just gave up soda and slowly switching to whole grains!

congrats on the weight loss!  and you'll probably be fine on the metformin cause it's usually at the higher doses that you get the nausea and i'm sure your doc probably started you on a low dose and then will gradually up it over time.  hope the meds work for you!
