We are having my brother officiate our wedding (in California) and I was wondering if you guys knew of any links that had readings for him to read for the ceremony? I should also mention we don't want anything religious. Thanks!

here's some stuff from my officient. we are also having an interfaith wedidng . we've taken out most of  religious wording

THE HOPE

__________ and __________, it is our hope that you will keep your love alive; that you will grow and change and maintain the capacity for wonder, for spontaneity, for humor; that you will remain patient, warm and sensitive.  It is our hope that you will give fully to one another, no matter what demands are made upon your day.  We hope that you will see the meaning of life through the ever-changing prism of your love; that you will nurture each other to fullness and to wholeness; and in learning to love each other more deeply, that you will learn to love the creation in which the mystery of your love has happened.

PRAYER OF CONSECRATION

We hear you in silence, O God.  We stand before you knowing and not knowing, afraid and not afraid.  We hear the silence.  We hear words unspoken, dreams not yet dreamt, pain not yet known, fullness not yet felt.  We hear the silence.  We sense persons reaching for and touching the stuff of life.  We hear the silence and somehow know in this moment that we join with all those who have made this journey, and with all those who will.  We hear trust and we hear love.  Amen.

AN ALTERNATE PRAYER

Eternal God, hear the voices of wonder, joy and hope.  Hear __________ and __________ as they stand before you today.  Hear the joy they have within their hearts; hear the inner wonder that trembles at the beauty of what has happened in their lives; hear the hope that surrounds whatever lies before them. Hear the strength and any uncertainty.  Feel the passion offered to you, ripe, alive and warm.

Come to this new union like fire; fuse it, warm it, ignite it.  Come like water; cool, quench and cleanse it.  Come like the wind; clear, caress and lift this couple into a new life.

O Thou whose face we see where life is real; whose rhythm we feel in dance, in poetry, and in our heartbeats; whose mystery we sense in art and in music and in love; burn and wash and caress this love, and keep it alive and vibrant.  Amen.

THE AFFIRMATION

__________ and __________, do you find within you a love that has fused your lives together?  (We do.)

Do you find within your love the courage to meet the challenges that may confront your relationship?  (We do.)

Do you then affirm your devotion to each other, and your willingness to love one another into unique fullness, taking the risks and assuming the vulnerability of love again and again?  (We do.)

some more from from the above ceremony sample

THE BLESSING

Sensing the power of love that is here, the wonder, the beauty, the miracle of how it has come into being…I invite all of us, as friends and family, to pledge our support to _________________ by joining together in saying "We bless your marriage with our love."  [and/or individuals can share in many ways, verbally or non-verbally]

A READING

There is a time when one is ready for commitment because one has found a reason.  Hope has a reason; fear’s hold starts slipping, and the ecstasy of sharing approaches unafraid.  The pleasure of a friend, the affection for a partner, the respect for a person are yours being together.  What you feel today is crucial, for your lives are made up of a caravan of todays, time moving before you and yet frozen into the certainty of the present moment.  Today may you look upon your tomorrows, seeing your roles as they mingle, separate, and mingle again.  You are to be companions, lovers, friends, to mix the music of your separate spheres, if you will, into a song of peace and love.  Today you can say all this because you have discovered a bond between you which you recognize as long established.  You are slipping into a place where God has meant you to be.
                            ---Anonymous

ANOTHER READING

Think not that you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.  Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.  But let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you.  Love one another, but make not a bond of love; let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your two souls.  Fill each other’s cup, but drink not from one cup.  Give one another of your bread, but eat not from the same loaf.  Sing and dance together and by joyous, but let each one of you also be alone, even as the strings of the lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.  Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping; for only the hand of life can contain your hearts.  And stand together, yet not too near together; for the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.
--Gibran

YET ANOTHER READING

The love of which I speak is slow to lose patience; it looks for a way of being constructive.  It is not possessive; it is neither anxious to impress nor does it cherish inflated ideas of its own importance.  Love has good manners, and does not pursue selfish advantage.  It does not keep account of evil, or gloat over the wickedness of other people.  On the contrary, it is glad with all good men [and women] when truth prevails.  Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything.  It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.  In this life we have three great lasting qualities: faith, hope and love; but the greatest of these is love.
        ---I Corinthians 13 (Phillips Translation)

THE MEDITATION

__________ and __________, when I look into your eyes, I see the reality of your love, as you are living it today.  Poets can write sonnets about it; musicians can compose songs about it; ministers can preach sermons about it; but love becomes real only when it is lived out day by passing day.

My hope for you is that, in the years that lie ahead, you will remember this day and the wonder of your love…and take a moment each day to bring your love alive again, through a touch, a glance, a word, or in some way special just to the two of you.

Celebrate your love; celebrate each other.  Cherish your love; cherish each other…every day for the rest of your lives.

THE VOWS

__________, I offer you myself, I offer you my strength, my support and my warmth, my loyalty and my faith; but most of all I offer you my love, and all that life will bring us in our marriage.

__________, I offer you myself, I offer you my strength, my support and my warmth, my loyalty and my faith; but most of all I offer you my love, and all that life will bring us in our marriage.

THE EXCHANGE OF RINGS

The vows that __________ and __________ have exchanged so tenderly and meaningfully are now to be sealed and symbolized by the giving and receiving of rings.  These rings are wonderful symbols of love.  Each is a circle of wholeness, unbroken.  Your rings mark the beginning of a long journey together. It is a journey that will be filled with wonder and surprises, with laughter and tears, with grief as well as with joy.  It can be filled every day with the celebration of life, and of your love.  May your rings continue to glow in the reflected light and warmth of the love that flows through each of you for your partner on this, your wedding day.

A WEDDING PRAYER

Out of this tangled world, O God, you have drawn together __________ and __________ and bound them by the swift sure insights of love.  Their destinies now shall be woven of one design, and their challenges and their joys shall not be known apart.  As they increase in mutual understanding, may their joy stand victoriously against the storm of circumstance that beats impartially at all of our doors.  And from the rich encouragement of their love, may they complete the unfinished pattern of their eternal selves.  Even as they have chosen each other from this world’s multitudes, under the guidance of your holy will, so let the days and years, now veiled by time, deepen the joy of their choice and make it eternally true.  Amen.

THE PRONOUNCEMENT

__________ and __________, that which was just between the two of you now has been shared with us all.  We urge you to explore your love well.  Explore it deeply and reverently.  Explore your love with joy and with hope and with courage.  And now, ministering in the name of God, with a great sense of personal joy, and with the warmth and love of all of our hearts, it is a privilege to pronounce you husband and wife, wife and husband.

A BENEDICTION

Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there is no loneliness for you.
Now there is no more loneliness.
Now you are two bodies,
But there is one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place,
To enter into the days of your life together…
And may your days be good and long
upon the earth….
      ---from the
                    Apache Wedding Prayer

AN ALTERNATE BENEDICTION

May the courage of the early morning’s dawning,
The strength of eternal hills and wide open fields,
The joy of silent streams and of the gentle wind,
The beauty of flowers and the song of birds,
The delight of children and the faith of youth,
Be in your hearts always __________ and __________;

And may God bless us all and keep us, may he give us light to guide us, courage to support us, and love, love that is eternal in our midst.  Amen.
