OMG I'm so pissed right now!!

So occasionally I will google my venue to see if any photographers have shot weddings recently there.  I just did that and found another couples wedding web site.  They are getting married at my venue the SAME DAY 3 1/2 hours before my ceremony starts!!  Now, their reception is not being held there so the ballroom will be all ours BUT...I'm planning to be there 2 hours before the ceremony starts to get dressed in the bridal room and take pictures (when we booked she said I could come and get ready as early as I wanted!).  They will still be there!!!  The coordinator at the site told us they only book one wedding a day...WTF???????  And my florist will need to get there a couple hours early to set up the ceremony site...but they will still be there?  What do I do??  I called the coordinator just now and left a message...but I'm so pissed!!  Obviously neither of us can change our wedding date...it's 7 weeks away!!  Arrrrggghhhhh.....everything was going so smoothly up until this point!

OH NO!! I'm so sorry...but first calm down. Are you sure they aren't using a different room in the venue? I would wait for the coordinator to call you back and clarify with her. Remind her that they told you that they only have one wedding per day there and express your concerns. I totally understand why you would be angry though..I would be too!!

that sux!  ya i'd call the coordinator and make your extreme displeasure known and that you'll be passing on this info on this unfortunate incident.  but short of that there's nothing you can do about the couple being there except have the site assure you that there's a place to get ready and time for your florists to come set up.  i'd let your vendors know just in case so they can prepare as much before they come (like assemble prior to getting there instead of at the site).

don't know that i'm much help.  so sorry chica!

That is awful! I can't believe they told you they only booked one wedding per day. They can't give that kind of misinformation! Talk to the coordinator and see what they can do. They must have a place for you to get ready and you florist should be able to go in at any time if that is what they told you previously. Hopefully they will be able to work it out so that it's not that much of an issue and they won't be in your way. I am so sorry for the additional stress of this!! Let us know what the coordinator says. I hope they will take care of everything for you!

Michelle! That sucks. You should totally try to get something thrown in for the inconvenience. That is ridiculous ESPECIALLY since they told you they only book 1 wedding a day. That's total crap. Sorry Hon!!

That is really horrible. Maybe you girls can get ready at another location and hire a car service to take you there for the ceremony? And let your florist know so he/she can brace herself and not leave as little as possible to be done on site.

I would def talk to the site coordinator and demand a partial refund or something to compensate!

i agree. talk to the venue and demand some sort of partial refund like champ said. tell her the main reason you booked there was because of the one wedding per day! good luck! dont worry it will work out. with or without another wedding there.

I def agree!  That is so annoying!!!  Did they think they were going to slip it in and not tell you?  Is it in the contract?

To give you an idea of what happened to us was....our hotel allows two weddings a day...one in the morning ends at 4pm and then the second one starts at 6pm.

Since we had the AM wedding we had the entire morning to set up.  Surprisingly guests stayed until after 4pm at which time they turned on the lights and started wheeling in the cake for the next reception!  They shoo'ed us out and began tearing down the linens, lights, etc.  I was ok with it, it's just a little abrupt.

So since you're the 2nd one, make sure they'll shoo out the first wedding and allow your vendors plenty of time to set up.  Good luck!

Wow - I would be furious!  We're getting into our venue 5 hours early and I'm worried it won't be enough time.

I've been to weddings where they shooed the guests out to set up for the next one.  Like MrsGG said, it was abrupt but everyone left.  Hopefully your venue will do the same.

Beatie - maybe TheBunny is on to something.  Maybe you can split the cost of chair rentals or something (as long as they're nice chairs)!  I'm sure they'll want to transfer all the florals but atleast the chairs will stay.

Just a thought!

That is horrible for them to say one thing then do another!  I really want to know what they have to say to you AND how they will accomodate you on your wedding day...  Stay strong and put your foot down!

Thanks for all the support/advice ladies!  Sorry to "post and run" yesterday...right after I posted that in the heat of my anger, I realized I had to run to get up to a DMB concert up in LA...great timing! :(

Anyway, update (sorry this is long)- the site coordinator called me back within about half an hour of leaving her my long, extremely frustrated message.  Here's what she told me...apparently this couple booked after me (we booked almost 10 months ago) and she allowed it because it was only the ceremony, not the reception.  Their contract states that their ceremony will start at 1:00 and that they have to be out, guests, flowers and all, by 2:15 at the latest.  Now, I told her that their wedding web site said their ceremony time was at 1:30, not 1:00.  You girls know that ceremonies hardly ever start on time so you figure maybe a 1:45 start time??  Figure in about 30 minutes for the ceremony and we're already at 2:15!  How are all the guests going to get out of there and all her flowers out by 2:15??  She said she was going to call the couple and clarify with them since the contract they signed states a 1:00 ceremony time but I haven't heard back from her yet.  But still...if it were my wedding, I wouldn't want to book it out of  my ceremony site immediately after it's over...I would want to take some pictures, right?

As for the bridal room, she said she didn't think the bride planned to use it?  I'm getting hair and makeup done at a hotel  but had planned to get my dress on, etc with my photographer at 3:00 at the venue.  And then we were going to do the pre-ceremony shots around the venue with BP and family.  If people are still milling around at that time, how uncomfortable is it going to be for me to walk in, dress in hand, to get ready?  Especially if people ARE in the bridal room?!  I don't want to feel like an assembly line bride!  Ugh.

As for the chairs for the ceremony, we upgraded to a dark brown wooden chair (standard is white).  If this other couple has white chairs, how will the site have time to change out over 100 chairs??  Now, if they upgraded too, then we have a different story.  If that's the case, I may ask to have the chair rental fee removed or at least cut in half since they are already there.

I don't know...I think I'm also really upset that the coordinator never called us to inform us of the additional event at the site that day.  She originally told us that we could come as early as we wanted to get ready...what if I had planned to completely get ready there,  hair and makeup, etc??  I get there at 11 and while I'm getting ready all these other guests and another bride are walking around??  So frustrated.  Sorry for the long vent...I guess there's nothing I can do at this point but thanks for listening!

I totally feel your frustration and you have very valid points, Michelle. The coordinator should have called you and informed you about this since you were told you could come as early as you want. As a matter of fact, I would let her think that you were planning on getting ready there! My friend is having her ceremony at the same place on Sept. 6, early morning. We'll see how on time they are.

Good to know you got the story- stay on them with the follow-ups.  I would be upset too, but the one thing that makes it seem to flow is many places have 2 weddings a day- so as long as this couple gets squared away- your day should run smooth...  The only thing that makes me nervous are the different start times your hearing about, b/c I could see that 'interfering'

I would make sure YOU get that room since it was given to you first though!

Hang in there, and keep us posted!

Yeah...the coordinator said that she made it clear to the couple when they booked that our wedding had priority since we booked first and we are doing the full event there.  BUT...come game day, who's to say that couple won't be running late, casually talking with guests, taking pictures, etc.  Awkward...that's all I can say how it's going to be.  Thanks girls! :(

HA!  Thanks Kristeen...i actually considered posting a message on their web site's guest book but then restrained myself! ;)  Not their fault...it's the venue's duty to make sure my contract is fulfilled.

What do you guys think...should FI and I insist that a clause be put in our contract that states what will happen if they aren't out by their stated 2:15 end time?  If so, how should we be compensated?  % off our site rental fee?  I don't know...
