ONE photo blog

I just counted.  I have 34 photo blogs that I follow on google reader.  Most of them are wedding photographers, some portrait/family, some street, some film, and some instructional blogs. I change whom I follow frequently.  Many photographers' photos look stunning at first, but after a while I get tired of the same old style and unfollow.  But there are a few that I still follow after all this time, and the photographers' creativity never ceased to amaze me.  I have two in mind, but let me just mention one, daily dose of imagery:

http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/

He uploads one image a day, and has been doing so for years.  The subjects vary, the styles are all very different.  I guess you can say he's a street photographer, just snatching photos wherever he goes.  His subjects are usually ordinary things in Toronto streets, but he's got such an eye and can spot things that most of us don't.

What's your ONE blog that you've been following and never ceased to amaze you?

Belgian, I've been following stuckinscustoms for a long time.  His recent works have been disappointing though.  I don't know if he's been trying to expand his horizon, or I'm just getting wary of his photos.  If you browse his earlier works, I'm curious if you think he's getting better or worse?

EDITED, at work today I had some time to think about this one.

I think for me, it's mainly because I have been to a lot of the same places as him (Cambodia, Thailand, India, Europe, NZ, the list goes on) and seeing the pictures he got there, it makes me want to go back to those places and recapture it all. Of course he's a pro and I was travelling with a little Sony camera because I just didn't have the money (and still don't have) for a D3X or even something half as good. He is just one photographer who's work really hit something with me. Both in his photography and post processing. And I can see an evolution in his work. If you look at his flickr stream, you see how in 2006 he posted holiday style pictures and then slowly got into post processing and HDR and further down the lines how he's evolved in those techniques. And again, for me, that encourages me to just keep trying and working on it.

But I can also see where after a certain time, his work might make you a little wary of it. Is it possible that he has evolved in perfecting his technique and therefor after a while, you get a feeling of "yeah, yeah, seen it all before, move on"? And with him trying something new, because maybe it is something that you think is not up to a certain standard yet and therefor you're a little disappointed because you know he can do better?

Also, now I'm curious to know, what is some of your favourite work of him? And where do you think you started feeling that his work is a little disappointing?

That is SUCH a tough question Yelp!  You bring up a good point about getting tired of seeing the same work . . . heck, I get tired of my own work!

I've been that way with a few photographers.  Although, I'd say one that I still consistently follow is Jen Skog, for both her weddings and her boudoir work. . .

I really respect Jerry Ghionis, he does beautiful work, but it doesn't strike me in the same way - not necessarily my style or one that I aspire too.

@Belgium,  sorry I didn't see your updated post until today.  I started disliking his work in May.  I think that's around the same time he started covering the last shuttle mission.  His style just doesn't work with the rocket launch, and he posted so many pictures as if he knew none of them were that great and kept trying.  Most of his pics from China and Paris were surprisingly mediocre, knowing how beautiful and diverse the places he visited.  He also used heavy texture like this

Belgium sorry I didn photo 3121182-1

For real? lol!

And some shots are just not meant to be HDR like this-

Belgium sorry I didn photo 3121182-2

Everytime I see this photo I have to squint.

I was disappointed for 2-3 months straight because I failed to see the "magic" I used to spot in his photos.  I love the way how the HDR effect looks hand painted, like this

Belgium sorry I didn photo 3121182-3

or this

Belgium sorry I didn photo 3121182-4

He has a way of making inanimated objects dance.  He is doing less and less of that recently.  Maybe he just needs to go back to Iceland.  I love all of his photos from Iceland.

I'm still following him though, because he still has pictures that make me go Wow, Ahh once in a while.

My all time favorites of his are all in his HDR tutorial page, sans the space shuttle one - I guess he thinks those are top notch too. http://www.stuckincustoms.com/hdr-tutorial

@mountain, It must be very tough for pros.  You can easily get bored with the amount of shots, but at the same time you can't radically change your style often because customers pay you for the style you created in the past.

This is kind of a tangent, but I wanted to say I totally agree yelp that some pics are not meant to be HDR.  I had a friend use a photographer that does a lot of HDR and I am not a fan of it (usually) in wedding pics.  This isn't my friend, but an example of her photog's work :/  It's just not natural!!

This is kind of photo 3121241-1

LMAO!!! Those would've been great if they were horses.  Horses are beautiful subjects of HDR photos.

However, Trey had very good HDR photos with people -

I think this one works because the people are pretty small:

LMAO Those would ve photo 3121290-1

In this one, I think only the background was HDR'd.  It might be a cute idea for wedding portraits actually.

LMAO Those would ve photo 3121290-2

Thanks for that yelppuppy, I'm going to go have a good look at his work with what you said in mind. It's so interesting to read what other people think of something that inspires you so much. Appreciation of art is subjective and this is a perfect example of it.
