Opinions needed: Wedding guest question

Hi ladies,

It's so nice to be back on the boards! This time I have a question as a wedding guest and not a bride.

Next month DH and I are attending a wedding for his coworker/friend. We've hung out with him and his fiancee a few times, and we get along well. All along I was planning to wear this dress that I love - it's a deep plum color and very flattering. DH really likes it on me as well. However, the bride just mentioned that her BM are wearing dresses in all shades of purple, and one of those shades is plum. Obviously my dress isn't the same, and this bride is very cool, laid back, and not at all the dramatic type, but I couldn't help but wonder... would it be a faux pas to wear a dress in the same color as the BM? As a bride, would it bother you?

So happy to see you on the boards today! You were missed! I am a laid back bride too so no, that wouldn't have bothered me at all. In fact, most of our guest asked what our wedding colors were and two of DH's aunts wore champagne dresses. I loved that everything seemed color coordinated lol. I say go for it!

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but I would wonder myself as a guest in your situation. I think it would be all right!

I think as long as you're not trying to nose yourself into all the pictures or anything (and I know you won't), it shouldn't be a big deal.

And it's wonderful seeing you back on the forums! :)

It wouldn't bother me at all. I actually did that once, unintentionally (of course). The BM dresses were short, dark teal, one shoulder...the dress I wore was short, dark blue, and one shoulder. Pretty much the same - the bride never said a word - It's her day, even if she does notice, she won't care, I know I won't.

I think you're fine. Purple is such a common color too that I'm sure other guests may be in a shade of purple too!
