OPP- Other people's parenting (or lack of)

I need to vent.

More than anything in the world, I can't tolerate RUDE, BRATTY, SASSY AND/OR OTHERWISE BAD KIDS!!!!!

My friend's dd is all of the above and as bad as it is to say this but ,I can't stand her.  Her parents let her get away with murder. If anyone else tries to reprimand her they get defensive/angry or  they are very dismissive (for example "she's only six" or "She still young she doesn't know any better" blah, blah blah)  She is EXTREMELY rude too.

We (her mom, me and and another mutual friend) were going to the outlet shops before christmas. My friend the only person who has SUV big enough for all of us and our bags. So she tells my friend that her car is old, and continues to ask when she's going to buy a new car. She keeps saying stuff like, " I don't like this car, it's too old." Mommy, what if this car breaks down and nobody can find us and then it snows and then we freeze to death" When we get to our destination, she has a tantrum and on the way back she doesn't want to share her space so she lays on the seat and keeps pushing  her mom with her feet until she moved.

Now that would be enough except that I had friends over for the new year. FI and I dabble in the vending business. We buy things in bulk so we have  one of those clear storage bins filled with gumballs in our sitting room. She sees it and immediately ask can she have a gumball. I told her only if her parents said yes. Of course they say it's fine and I give her a gumball. She chews it for all of five seconds and announces that she doesn't like that color and that she want a different one. I say no and she goes and tells her mom. Now here's what gets me, her mom doesn't reprimand her for being a brat but  the instead placates her by making me look like the bad guy. She starts saying "Sweetie, don't be mad, this isn't our stuff. It's MissDD's stuff. She doesn't have to give you another one etc..." Now I guess my question is, am I wrong for feeling like her upset about this? Is it just me or do you think her mom should have handled it differently.

Oh and btw-- what brought this vent about is that I found gum stuck to my armchair today GRRRRRRR!!!!!!

I'd be really upset too! I cannot stand when other people do not take the responsiblity to parent their children. It pisses me off to no end! You have every right to be mad!

And I'd ask for her to pay for my sofa! I don't care if it was a dollar she'd she pay for it!

This is unbelievable - shame on your friend, she should be embarrassed.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees it this way. I think the thing that gets me the most is that they always excuse her behavior because she's young. I mean come on, I understand being young and immature but that is not an excuse for bad behavior. There are plenty of six year olds across the world who know how to behave themselves. And honestly if the parents never teach her, how will she learn differently? Thanks for letting me vent.

Oh and newmrsel you are bolder than I am lol.

I hear ya....lack of parenting is one of my biggest pet peeves in the world!  I sure didn't let my son run wild when he was little, and I don't think other people should, either!

are you serious?!!! what  a bad experience. so sorry you went through that. bratty kids get on my nerves too! not everyone has the same parenting skills and most parents suck at what they do...honestly. that's why the world is the way it is. parents have surrendered all power to kids.
