OUCH!!!!!!

I have a decent level of pain tolerance. The pain of the HSG was like nothing I have ever experienced. Both of my tubes were blocked. The increased pressure is what caused so much pain. My actual dr is the one that did the procedure so once it was determined, she and I were able to make the call to see if the blockages could be flushed out. The left flushed fairly easily (still a lot of pain but bearable). The right required even more pressure and caused the room to spin from the pain. It was successful though and both tubes are now clear.

I ended up pretty much going into shock - sweats, chills, diarrhea, wanting to vomit....my 30 min appt became 2 hours. I had to be given anti nausea medication, as well as a pain killer. Now I feel hung over, but I can function.

So now we will try for another 2 cycles to see if we can get this done on our own! If not we will re evaluate wih my dr.

Happy Friday, Ladies!

So sorry it was painful.  I can only imagine what that felt like (my tubes were clear) but I was so nervous anticipating the pain while they were inserting the dye waiting for there to be a blockage.

That's great the your Dr. was able to clear the blockages!!  I'm sure you've read as well that a lot of couples have had success after an HSG!!  Best wishes!!

Thanks Ladies! At the moment, I think if DH tried to touch me I'd have to kill him!

He did not go with me. I never dreamed the pain could be any more than what I'd felt when an ovarian cyst ruptured and I knew I could handle that. I was so wrong. I am apparently a text book case for how bad it can be. I will say that I would do it again because this gives us the chance we needed to get that BFP. I will also go prepared for any other procedures knowing I need to clear my schedule, just in case. So glad I did today!

Sorry it was so painful! I can't even imagine that. Would it be good prep for childbirth pain?

Sending good wishes for the next couple cycles :-)

I can honestly say (now that I feel human again) that I would go through it all again to have this chance at a BFP.  While the experience sucked, it was temporary =)

athena85 - as I mentioned, I have a history of ovarian cysts that rupture and trust me, that is ridiculously painful.  My mom has the same condition.  When I was in the ER with my first one 10 years ago, I called my mom (she lives out of state) and told her what was going on.  I told her, "If this is what childbirth is like, I AM NOT DOING IT!"  She laughed and said, "Oh honey!  A ruptured cyst is WAY WORSE than child birth!"  And she knows what she is talking about - she had both me and my brother without ANY drugs - totally natural!  (My sister was an emergency cesarean because she was breech.)  My sister also had my niece without any drugs.  Since I know that having your tubes unblocked during an HSG is WAY WORSE than having a cyst rupture (at least in my case) I am not worried about the childbirth ;)

Good news, Claire!  My mom had the 3 of us with natural birth.  I'd hope to do it that way, but I always hear if you have a birth plan it will go the opposite way.  So although I'm a planner, I'm going to have to avoid a birth plan.  LOL.

I'm sorry it was that painful, as most women say child birth is the most painful thing they've experienced.  You're a tough cookie!
