I'm not sure.... If we end up with extra in the budget I'll do a few, but to light up 80 lanterns would be crazy expensive! Although it would look awesome!!

I have seen white mini christmas lights for $1 around the holidays that are battery operated. I wonder if we could put those inside the lanterns.  Does anyone think it will work? If so, I'll start looking for the lights and post.

I Know!! Yours is taffeta isn't it??
The green is PERFECT, it looks a little dark at first but when you actually assemble one it's PERFECT!

I think the battery powered ones would be good, except I think the battery would only last for a few hours... hmmm.... Lets put our heads together ladies and figure out something to light up our lanterns that won't cost us a FORTUNE!!

How about glow sticks from the dollar store?  Get the green ones for the paper lanterns.

that might work too... but I'd probably need about 20 of them to light up a 24" lantern.... worth a test though!! THX

Update on the paper lantern goodness... (SORRY, LONG!!)

I found an awesome DIY for lighting your paper lanterns for you ladies on a budget that don't want to purchase those expensive LED lights from Lunabazaar.com...
I found a posting on Weddingbee about "Throwies", they are homemade LED lights used by urban grafitti artists.  Basically LED bulb + battery + magnet all taped together, they go out in dorky groups and chuck them at metal buildings and create modern "artwork" around cities... looks pretty cool and they last for weeks apparently... but I won't even go into the cleanup, and how harmful the batteries are... but anyway....

These triple LED lights from Lunabazaar cost $4.95/each for shipping...

The DIY's cost (from a online electronics store):
250 LED bulbs = 64.05
250 button cell lithium batteries = 71.85
Duct Tape = $5.00/roll
Cardstock (to slip between post and battery/on off switch so to speak) = $2.00/sheet

I have the instructions on how to make them, I'll post in my BIO one of these days... or you can just google "THROWIES" and not bother with the magnet part as I'll be stringing them in the lanterns with fishing line, probably 3-4/lantern

TOTAL COST FOR ALL 250 "LIGHTS" = $142.90
COST PER "LIGHT" APPROX = $0.60 - $0.70 allowing for a few mistakes and a few dud batteries and the small shipping cost....

I'm gonna buy a small supply of the lights and batteries at radio shack this weekend and try it out before I become a dork and order a huge supply off the net...

I'll update you...!
