Parents trippin over price tags! Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllpppp.lol

Here is the thing.... My fiance and I are paying for our own wedding. Now, my mom (l love her so much) feels obligated to give something even though I have stressed to her it is not necessary. I do not want to offend her so Im like ok whatever you want to give as a gift, we will appreciate it. However, I made the mistake of having her help me look for a ceremony venue and now she is freaking about how much everything will cost. Its stressing me a little because instead of her just being excited and focusing on the moment all she can see is dollar signs and that's all she wants to discuss. She did not have a wedding and in her mind all this money can go somewhere else... smh. Trying real hard not to get overwhelmed. I know she means well and I love her in spite of,  but being already money conscious... its hard not to feel frustrated.

This was more of a vent.lol but I was wondering if anyone else has/had similar stories?

I wanted to elope, my family would not hear of it and WE DH and I paid for it all.

For the Vow re-newal I just wanted it to be us and SHE again said she HAD to be there as did certain OTHER guests so guess what. . .

Again WE are paying for it and OH because it is a vow renewal MY sisinlaw said to make sure we put no gifts. . .

So here I am Forced to pay for people I could care less about making dietary changes etc and footing the bill AGAIN

Eloping is so much easier and I would spend all of the money on a much needed Vacastion.

Let's just say I put my foot down when she said she wanted to go on a cruise for HER birthday and we would all have to pay for her tickets plus our own. I said NO way in hell will I fly to go on a cruise.

Yeah, I am done with people. After this event we have decided that for Andrew's Graduation everyone is going to the shooting range and having a BBQ and only guys who shoot are invited! YUP. I finaly put my foot down.

I feel you. I think we need to switch families because my mom would be too happy for me to elope.lol I understand that 10k is a lot to spend on one day... that's a car...down payment on a house but its what I want. I do not shop a lot or spend money on a lot of other crazy things so its like let me have my frivolous moment.lol I promise I won't make a habit of it. All in all, I'm going to do what makes me happy. I just do not want to hear the comments and complaints along the way but you can not control others feelings or what they say. So, I need to learn to ignore them and stay focused.

Do what makes you happy don't cave like I did.

I am just glad I am now putting my foot down with her.

I just wish I had done that 6 months ago!

I completely understand. I'm a first grade penny pincher so I get mom's side, but I LOVE weddings so I get yours as well. We all know moms want whats best for us. My mom and I have been at war over the guest list at least three times. Took me a few months to realize FI and I never really wanted a guest list. So now we're eloping. Not to get back at her or anything, just cause its what we wanted.

Its good you realize she means well cause sometimes we forget in all the fustration. I agree with everyone that doing what makes you happy is best. From time to time thank her for her concern but gently remind her that for you the cost of the wedding is worth it.
