PCOS

I posted this on TTC board, but thought I may get more answers/help on here too.

Its official, I have PCOS :( Sad day. I had an ultra sound today and my doctor went over my options. She wants to start me on Glucophage first to try and get my cycles regular and if that doesn't work, talk about starting me on Cloumid. I dont really know how I feel about all this. I always said, even before TTC, that if I cant get preggers on my own (with out the help of drugs), then I want to adopt. Now I dont know.

I mentioned before that I started acupunture to try and regulate my periods. My last clycle was only 32 days long (my cylce before acuputure was 72 days). I dont know if it was more "normal" this month because of the acuaputure, I am thinking it was just a coinsdence.

I know a lot of you ladies here have PCOS, what has your TTC experiences been like? Have you tried Glucophage? I would love to hear your stories/experiences.

Also, when is the best time to take a OPT? I was taking them first thing in the morning, but then was reading that I should do it at night.

Just read it. Thank you Jess! I know acupunture isn't going to fix or regulate my cycles, I told dh that I wanna try to just stick with it for at least another month or two. I am just a little sad and bitter about all this. I have 4 girls at my work that are preggers, a friend who was done having kids and now my best friend just found out she is after trying for 3 weeks. So not fair!

Over time, it could have a dramatic difference. I did it for almost a year, only stopped because we are completely out of pocket for it. It really helped me with the pain from my endometrisos.

I know exactly how you feel, it's absolutely not fair =(

Hi Jackie! Sorry to hear about your troubles, but at the same time, it is good to know that you have a reason. I have PCOS also and TTC has definitely been a journey. I was given Metformin/Glucophage to try and help regulate my cycles and then was started on Clomid. After two unsuccessful rounds of Clomid, I was moved onto Femara. The second round worked :) TTC with infertility obstacles can be very overwhelming and emotional. It was such a rollercoaster ride. But a ride well worth it.

When first hit with infertility, DH and I had to sit down and discuss our options.  We both knew that we wanted to have a baby. We also knew that IVF and adoption were our last resort. We wanted to everything we possibly could before looking into IVF and adoption. Talk with your DH and with your MD. It's best to get everyone on the same page and do what's best for you.

Good luck!

I guess I am still a litle confused about all of it. Im not even 100% sure I have psoc. When the dr came in the room she was looking over the ultrasound I just had. My appt was to see why my cylces are so far apart.

When she was looking at my ultrasound pictures she brought up pcos. I asked if I had pcos and her response was, "well it's hard to know for sure. It depends what angel you look at on you ultra sound". Then she started counting the little circles on the photos. I have know idea what they were. Do you ladies?

When I was at the appt I didn't really say much and kinda just wanted to get out of there, so I didn't really get to ask a lot of questions.

the cirlces were most likely follicles (eggs) in your ovaries. I'd ask her to run some bloodwork, did she take a look at your charts?

I posted on the other board as well...but if the little circles were around your ovaries like a "string of pearls"...that is the little cysts that point out PCOS.

Hey jackie welcome to the club, I too have pcos and was diagnosed via ultrasound. My doctor has me on metformin right now and when dh and I get ready to ttc we're going to add clomid to the mix. Although dh and I aren't actively ttc I'm glad I know now what's wrong with me instead of finding out when we do want to start trying. My experience was absolutely  no period for 6 months after I went off bc because I hated how I felt on it. PCOS wasn't something any of my doctors would've come to if I hadn't done some research and realized I fit a majority of the symptoms for it. I'm still on a learning curve with this but being able to come here and ask questions has been great. Let me know if you have any questions about it and good luck hun!

Sorry about your news - but you are not alone, I have PCOS as well.

I am not trying to "justify" the use of drugs if you are not comfortable with it, but did you know that PCOS is an endocrine disorder?  For me, I have to think of it just like any other illness you might have and the only way to get to my desired result to to take medicine.  I know that I WILL NOT get pregnant without the use of fertility drugs.  Of course, I would rather have a completely natural and "unplanned" (as in not timing intercourse) pregnancy, but that is just not in our cards anymore.  Both DH and I have accepted that and know that we are doing all we can to get to our desired end result.  It is not an easy journey I can assure you, but I know that one day we will get to where we want to be.  I guess you need to decide if you both are comfortable with it.

And who knows - Some women with PCOS are extremely lucky and can get pregnant on the first round of Clomid.  Others have a longer road and it can take years.

Best of luck to you.

I am truly sorry to hear about the diagnosis. But it’s true that you are not alone. I was diagnosed about 7 years ago. I was put on the glucophage, and within the first 2 months I was pregnant. Unfortunately it ended in a miscarriage, but the positive side was that I was able to get pregnant. My doc did tell me that some women with PCOS need to stay on the glucophage for the first trimester, since we are prone to miscarriage.

Flash-forward to now, and my FI and I are TTC again (it’s been 3 months so far). I have an appt with my doctor next week to go over my options. I am still on glucophage to help regulate my cycle, but I am not seeing it do the same thing that it did last time, so I am thinking they might try me on Clomid next.

PCOS, is definitely a hard road, but there is hope, and knowing that there are other women out there makes it a little easier to deal with. Best of luck to you :-) If you need to vent or have any questions I am here to help

I have PCOS too, don't let it discourage you.  In most cases you can get pregnant, you just need a little help with meds and other stuff getting there!! :)  Wishing you the best of luck!! :)
