PCOS and weight loss?

How did you ladies that gained weight get rid of the weight? I've been told the metformin helps and I've gotten back into an exercise routine and have been eating healthy but I'm not sure what else I can do to lose some weight any suggestions?

I believe I have said this before, but it is EXTREMELY hard to loose weight with PCOS - If you google it you can still tons of threads of women going through this same battle.  My doctor told me to do really low carb diet - I don't eat any breads, rice etc.  I get my "needed carbs" from fruit and certain veggies (stay away from potatoes as well).  The low carb diet is recommended with PCOS because you usually have insulin resistance - which makes carbs your worst enemy.  I lost 9 lbs in a little over 3 weeks on South Beach Diet.  I don't weight myself, so I can't tell you how much more I have lost, but I definately feel a lot better.

Also exercise - my doctor recommended 5x a week.

Hope this helps :)

One other thing to add - Before I did low carb, I was eating healthy stuff all the time and counting calories and I was GAINING weight!!!  It was extremely frustrating but ever since I have knocked carbs out of my diet, I have lost what I did gain and I feel so much better.  Some PCOS women even say going low carb has helped regulate their cycles.

Hurley- You and I are in the same boat... I did lose weight at one point with the HCG diet but then gained it back because I ended the diet right before the holidays, but honestly I wouldn't recommend the hcg diet, it was awful. I wish I knew ways to lose weight for us with PCOS. I too have started eating smaller portions, walking, and eating 6 small meals a day including breakfast (which I never ate before).

so hard to cutout carbs copletely though I tried the south beach die a few years ago and without the carbs I was RAVENOUS all the time it got so bad I started feeling shaky however that was a few years before pcos and I was in my ideal weight range so maybe that will change. It's just so tough because there are carbs in EVERYTHING. I'll try picking up a book though and see what I can come up with. DH and I don't eat much in the way of carbs as it is we rarely ever even have bread in our house and if we do it usually goes bad before we eat half the bag. We have no pasta at all either but we do eat a lot of potatoes, corn, and peas which I told dh is no longer happening and before I got sick this past week I'd been getting on the treadmill every morning before work, doing yoga, and I work as a vet tech which in itself is a major workout I burn at least 1000 calories a day at work alone.

I know it is hard to cut out carbs- but with South Beach you can eat good carbs - Like Black Beans, Brown Rice etc...You just can only eat so many servings a day.  The two week no carb thing was super super hard on me.  I got sick and had zero energy. I think with PCOS you just have to try a bunch of things and see what your body will respond to.  I agree that the low carb thing might not be for everyone, so hopefull you could find something that works for you.
