PCOS- anyone else?

So I have noticed basically...excessive weight gain over the pass few years and sometimes I get a lot of breakouts on my face. I didn't think anything of it, until my FSIL told me I could have PCOS. I went to the gyno, got blood work done and she said there are clear signs that I have it, but I need an ultrasound to confirm.

What I am not understanding is, I am carrying extra weight and it's very hard for me to lose lbs, my skin isn't that bad at all (Ive been to a dermatologist and those were their exact words) and my period is controlled due to birth control, even when I was off BC I had gotten my period and it lasted a week.

Can the only possible symptom I have be weight gain and a few pimples? I am not sure about infertility yet since I haven't had an ultrasound and I am nowhere near trying to have a baby yet. I just know that PCOS tends to affect baby making....

Anyone else have PCOS and has it affected your weight? if so have you been prescribed anything to reduce your weight?

For the women who have it that get a regular period has it affected your fertility?

I have PCOS and I have no physical symptoms except for lack of periods.

Just because you get a period doesn't mean you actually ovulate.  Sometimes your body will bleed on its own, not from ovulation.

A lot of people on here have PCOS and were prescribed Metformin or Prednezone.

It has effected my fertility. We are 7 months and no ovulation and are on round 3 of clomid.

Hope that answers some questions

I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago, however I suspect I had it for a long time and bc was just masking all of my symptoms. Once I went off bc the weight piled on, I gained about 20lbs in 4 months. I blamed it on the winter and I couldn't work out as much, which Im sure had alot to do with it, but I also think the PCOS did it too. Most of the weight was gained in my stomach, which I have read can be from PCOS. It is also very difficult to get the weight off. I have been trying since I was diagnosed and can't seem to make the scale budge.

I also have fairly good skin, a few minor breakouts here and there, but nothing serious. I did notice my skin got super oily when off bc, which was totally different than my normal dry skin.

I have never had normal periods so I knew trying to get pregnant was going to be a challange for DH and I. I never imagined it would be this hard though!

I was put on metformin for insulin resistance and to try and help with the weight. I have heard it works for some and helps them lose, but I haven't noticed anything. As far as infertility goes I am on clomid, have been for a few months, to get me to ovulate monthly.

This is only my second full day of Metformin (I took one pill two days ago to see what it would do to me, yesterday I had my 3 pills, today so far I've had 2 pills)

I have had a side effect so far... and other things I have experienced is lack of appetite.

I kind of have to force myself to eat just because I know I have to take a pill soon. Also I get this weird feeling of the possiblity of being hungry but then that feeling goes away FAST.

Like just now, haven't been to lunch yet and I really don't want to eat anything but I know I have to eat something in order to take my pill.

Also I am getting an ultrasound tonight after work tosee if everything is going well in the baby making department.

I can't really help too much. I was told I had PCOS 10 yrs ago, I was 17. I by no means was close to even wanting a baby. At that time I was terrified of the thought because of what my bff went through having her son at 17. By the time I was 24 fell in love and wanting to do the whole marriage and family thing it started sinking in I may have problems. I was put on BC from age 17 to 24. I was on the pill for that time then changed to the ring. I had many times skipped a pill or didn't have the ring in when I was to because of not being able to get it in time etc. and I never got prg. This often made me wonder if I can.

Currently not really trying but not preventing so I am thinking about this as well especially now.

I had the ultrasound to confirm that I had PCOS. It hasn't come up with the doctors since. I been planning to mention it if I am not pregnant within the year. I have not had any signs other then a messed up period before birth control and even on it, it can be wacky.

Good luck to you.

I suspect that I'm going to be diagnosed with it.  I've now had 3 doctors with different specialties tell me that it very much sounds like PCOS is a possibility.  I have struggled with weight all my life but lately it seems to be very hard to get off and easy to go on.  I have other signs though like the fact that my period has never been normal and for the last year since going off BC, I've not had a natural period... the only 2 times I've had one have been brought on by Provera or Prometrium.  I also have abnormal hair growth on my face and body (on my chest and up to my naval).  I just did a sleep study and found out that I have sleep apnea which is something often associated to PCOS (my endocrinologist told me that ladies with PCOS have a 30% higher chance of having sleep apnea as well).

Since I've not been ovulating and yet my husband and I have been TTC since July of 2010, I'd say it's definitely having a negative effect on our TTC journey.  However, now that I'm starting to connect the dots and get things diagnosed properly, I'm hopeful that that will change.  My endo has successfully helped many ladies get pregnant that were having fertility issues.
