Petite Brides in need of dress suggestions!!!

I've been looking at a lot of dresses online and am having trouble trying to visualise them on myself. I'm 5'3 and 110lbs, and I feel like I will get shrunk or swallowed by everything! I want to have an idea of what I want when I go shopping with my mom for the first time in January, but all it's doing is giving me a headache!

What sort of dress shapes and styles have you seen on petite brides or worn yourselves! Photos would be helpful and much appreciated!

I found these dress? Are they suitable for me?

Silhouettes

Types of Silhouettes

Ball Gown: A great dress for petite, full-figured, pear shaped, and thin women. This dress is usually very full and Cinderella-like. The dress flares out at the waist (example below).

Empire: A great dress for petite women who do not have a definite waistline. This style is not recommended for women who have an hour glass figure. This type of dress is where the waist line is raised above the natural waistline. In the pictures below the waistline is right below the bust. This is not unusual in empire  type silhouettes (example below).

A-line: This gown can be worn by all body shapes. This dress tends to be fitted at the top and then flares out towards the bottom, creating an A-shape (example below).

Princess: This gown can be worn by all body shapes. However, the princess cut can have panels that are in the dress. This style is very similar to the A-line silhouette, however, it has vertical panels that run from the neckline to the hem creating a clean lined look (example below).

Sheath: This dress is a great choice for thin women. This style is not recommended for short or full figured women. It tends to hug the womans figure and has a defined waist (example below).

Mermaid: This dress is a great dress for women who would like to display their curves. The dress is very fitting all the way down to the hips and then begins to flare out. This dress is not recommended for short figured women (example below).

I think it depends on the actual dress, not the style.  I am 5 feet 1 inches on a good day and I had a mermaid dress and ball gown.

Thank you for the sweet advice. I decide to try some dresses in local shops to see which dress suits me the most. I'll upload the dress pic if i find the dream one.

You can check out David's Bridal, they have a section specifically for petite brides (5'4" and under). That's my plan - I'm 5'1! Good luck!

When we were hunting for wedding dress for my sister (she is also 5'1),

she was told by everyone that princess style gowns are best. If you go for some huge flare, you will definitely look short that you are.

Here is one reference,

I love the silhouette of a princess dress and I think that it sounds like that would look adorable on you!

I too am petite and when I first went on my dress search I was looking online. Many stores do not have a petite line at all and the selection at David's Bridal was very limited. I originally had my heart set on a ball gown because my DH makes me feel like a princess. So happy I went to some stores finally to try on various silhouettes because when I put on the ball gown I looked like a crocheted toilet topper! I felt lost in the dress and I just burst into laughter, plus the dress added on extra pounds. ( I am only 4'11). I finally found a dress that made me look fabulous although I had to get it tailored. My advice for any bride is to go in the store even if you decide to buy online just to see what suits your shape and height!
