Picked up my dress....and hate it

I had a lady make my wedding dress and it was ready 9/1 just like she said which was good. I went and picked it up yesterday and I tried it on when I got home and I hate it. I truly hate the dress. :(

Aw, I'm sorry sweetie!! We all go through periods of 'dress doubt' but it's been my experience from seeing it many times here on PW that once you try it on with the full ensemble (jewelry, veil, etc) you usualyl remember why you fell in love with it in the first place.

Do you have any pictures you can post to show us what you don't like? Maybe there are some alterations that can be made so you will love it more!

My plan was to wear a small sweater shrug with the dress, a small crinny slip and a belt or sash under my bust.

Oh no, I am SO sorry! Is there anything you can do to the dress that could make it look better?

This is the inspiration photo that shows the "look" that I was sort of going for-

My dress was cut in more of a pin-up slip dress style though. My skirt would not be nearly as poofy as this style.

@jmbuss9- That's the issue that I'm having now. I spent $400 on this dress to be made. Should I put more money into it? The lady who made the dress said that she could re-do the skirt but that was about it. And I would have to pay for that alteration to be done. So, another maybe $100 for a new skirt, custom shrug estimate $50-$100, crinoline estimate $50+, sash estimate $30+, jewelry, shoes, undergarments. I don't know if I should keep putting money into this dress if there's a chance that I'm still going to hate it.

Did she make the dress wrong? or its not what you envsioned?  if she made it wrong or didn't understand  she needs to fix it and not for $100.

If you hate it now you would probably hate it after putting all that money into it. do you have a picture of what your looking for? Maybe we could help you find something close?

Have you tried it with your sash? I wonder if seeing it with a cinched waist would make you feel better? Don't have the sash you want yet, try it with a belt so you can get the idea.

I'm so sorry you're not thrilled with your dress, and like Sam said, we all get dress doubt that's for sure! Even after the wedding seeing all these amazing dresses out there! It's hard! Lol. But I agree with Nikki, maybe with the sash/cinched waist you can envision it a little better. Good luck!!

The picture you posted doesn't look anything like the one you want. I would say don't put any more money into it and start over. You can try to sell the other dress to at least get something for it.

When I found the dress for my wedding, it made me cry. It wasn't the most expensive or couture or unique, but on me it was the one and only. And it made me cry, along with everyone else who was with me.

I think this is the dress you want.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I found my inspiration picture online and then I met with the seamstress and we basically took three different designs and put them together. I should have just stuck with one design. So yes she did make the dress the right way. It just is not flattering at all on me. I am a plus size bride and I know that it's my fault for just ordering something that I "thought" would look good on me. I should of atleast tried on a similar style dress before I paid her to make me a dress off of a couple of pictures that I liked.

@Eurestruly- Yes that is the exact dress from my photo but I didn't want that exact dress if that makes sense. It was more of the total "look" that I was envisioning.

AHHHHHHH!! i hate when that happens. we all have a vision on our head and then when it  doesn't turn out that stinks. what are you going to do? Get  another dress? A different style? If you need help looking for something please ask. There are several of us on here that love a challenge. I have my fingers crossed and hope that you will find something that you love.

what about with a crini? I have the problem of feeling big, a LOT. maybe adding more to the bottom would make it more... dress proportional?

A crini is a good idea! Do you have pictures of you in the dress that we could see. Or has anyone seen you in it? No need to feel self concious around us, I promise. The reason I ask is that I know I tend to feel bigger than I look, our minds can be jerks.

But there is no reason you should feel uncomfortable on your big day. PW has a great classified section, you could try posting it to see if anyone would buy it. Then you could make some money back to put toward a new dress that you feel like a queen in. GL, and keep us posted!
