Pictures of Plus Size Ladies in Trumpet / Mermaid Dresses

Hello,

I haven't been able to try on a proper fitting trumpet/mermaid dress, as most bridal stores don't seem to carry samples in plus sizes. I would really like to see how it fits on a bigger girl and not the skinny mini models :) ... Any plus size brides on PW with this style of dress? Photos?

Thanks!

I dont have any pics of me in any that I tried on, but I WOULD NOT buy until you drive somewhere and find on. I had my heart set on a trumpet. Tried it on and my butt and thighs looked redic, so had to go w/ an Aline skirt. Just a heads up

I'm a size 12 with big boobs and big hips/butt.  I tried on a mermaid, not thinking I'd like it, but I LOVED it.  If you're curvey in all the right places, it doesn't matter how big you are, it will really be flattering!  Also, the dress I bought has a built in corset, it holds me in everywhere and gives me the PERFECT figure.  Made me feel like a size 6!  It's not a mermaid (I almost did buy one tho).  I have a small A line. Just think of Marilyn Monroe!I m a size photo 1462335-1

I would highly recommend trying it on ----- I'm a size 6, but super curvy (think 32DD boobs, 27 inch waist, 37 inch hips at 5'2") and when I tried a mermaid on (by accident) I looked silly!!! I felt like I should have a sign ---- "Dangerous Curves Ahead" .

A taller girl might look better, but I would still try it on/.

I tried on a pretty fitted dress -- it wasn't quite a trumpet, but I'm thinking it was close enough... My rear did look a little large, but I liked the overall shape. I felt thinner in it then in other dress shapes -- I felt that the poofier they were, the bigger I looked.

I cannot believe I'm going to do this...

Don't mind the face.  But this is me, two or three weeks post c-section and a size 16.  So try them on.  You really just can't tell without doing so and even if one looks bad, try on a few if that's what you like.  For me, I just didn't want a strapless a-line just because I'm not thin.  My dress is in my bio and it's sort of flared, but not really trumpetted.

I know this is old but i am going through the same thing they keep trying to discourage me away from them and go with this god awful poofy stuff.  From my experience in wedding planning girls with girls feel much more confident in a fitted a line (better for that after baby pooch) or a mermaid a trumpet is a no bueno situation it hugs in the wrong places for curvy girls the mermaid flares right above the knee the trumpet gathers below causing th bootie to seem wayyyyy to large.  also if you are petite (short) and curvy than a trumpet makes you look shorter and more like a box.  If you are curvy but not completly happy with the curves ask for a fitted a-line (there is a difference do let them tell you otherwise) if you are comfortable with your curves than go with a mermaid a sweetheart neckline helps soften the width of you hips so ask them to pin it before you look in the mirror!!! if you ask to try on prom dresses you will have more luck for a shape i know its not ideal but the fashion industry does not think you should be able to be proud of your curves this is what I have done to get an idea of what i want and when you are trying on prom dresses they are less pushy and let you shop lol its a great way to obseerve if that briadal salon is somewhere you would want to give your business by the way they treat other brides and people as they walk in.

Go to Davids Bridal and you can see the dresses on actual plus size women. Mine is a side drapped trumpet here is a picture form the back. I have very large hips/butt and I found it to be the most flattering IMO. Go to Davids Bridal photo 1795363-1

My dress (at least the one I'm supposed to be getting) is this shape!  I was really, really hesitant to try on a dress shaped like this at first, but it actually flattered my figure a lot more than any of the other style of dresses I had tried on.  I think the reason that the shape flattered me more than I thought it would is because I'm a bit taller at 5'8".  Unfortunately I don't have any pics of me in it.
