Planning another event

My oldest daughter is expecting her first child.  Her due date is March 4th.

My youngest daugther wants to plan a baby shower and I couldn't be happier.  Not sure what the theme is going to be yet, although I know it will involve a lot of pink.

I'm excited to take on another planning adventure.  Not near as much time as with planning a wedding though. In the hopes of capturing some of that same excitement as planning the wedding, I can't wait to get started.   It will be a rushed job since DH and I are off to the Dominican in a couple weeks.

The shower isn't a surprise.

Any ideas you have, send them on.

I'm not sure what route it will take.  My youngest daughter is the one planning it, but I will be doing a good portion of it.  I will be the one paying for it.  That's what momma's do! :)

There will be lots of pink. That much I do know! :)

one thing i love, that i found AFTER my shower (grr!) is a diaper raffle. every willing participant brings a pack of diapers and gets as many raffle tickets as packs of diapers they bring. then you draw winners and they can win an assortment of prizes (wine, gas gift cards, picture frame, etc.. whatever you want to make the prizes). im helping my bff do her shower and thats something "i had" to have on the invite haha.

word to the wise.. i was 8 1/2 months pregnant at my shower. i stressed sooo much that i was going to have the baby before i had my shower. mine started as a surprise so every weekend i thought "this is it!!" but it never was. eventually i threw a fit and broke down sobbing to my mom and made her tell me the date just to ease my mind. so if you can have her shower not so close to her due date, you will all be happier! ;) later to find out, id have to be induced at 41 wks, and i really had nothing to worry about bc my child was very content in there!

my shower was mostly pink too! with green and purple accents (i found a balloon i loved and told my mom to revolve the shower around that haha!!) it didnt really have an overwhelming theme, more of a color sceme. there was alot of tulle and butterflies! my favors, which had NOTHING to do with anything, were fortune cookies whose fortunes said "roses are red, violets are blue, mya liane cant wait to meet you! kelly shower 1.15.11" they were a big hit, and not something that you haaaad to keep. we ordered them online

some of the butterfly decorations are hanging in myas room still because i loved them so much!
one thing i love photo 3438196-1

one thing i love photo 3438196-2 ignore my face yelling for my mother haha, focus on the buterflies hanging from the ceiling!

another fun, yet disgustingly funny game we played was "identify the diaper" so there were 5 diapers, all with smashed candy bars in them to resemble poo, and you had to smell it to guess what kind of candy it was. who ever got the most correct won a small prize. it was more for comic relief then anything else. even DH and my grandmothers played which was hysterical!

i had 40-50ish people there. it was chaotic, i was fat, hot, tired, and overwhelmed. i never got to eat, and barely had anything to drink. MAKE SURE you tell her to take a break and eat and drink! i wishhhh someone "saved" me from the belly rubs to tell me to take a minute for myself.

Baby showers are always fun! I am looking forward to seeing how this all comes together.

One of my favorite things at my baby shower was the cloth diaper cake. I LOVED it. Lots of uses for them even if not for diapers!

The best gift I got was my baby sling. It was the kind with two rings. I would not bother with the what to expect books or the Dr. Sears or the La Leche league, but I promise that sling has been a gift to me and all of my GF's who have used it.

We went so far as to learn how to make them and give them away at dr's offices etc. When parents asked about them. Because they were just that amazing and inexpensive. One of my firends ended up starting a business by giving a few away and attaching her phone number they or their friends ordered many many more!

BTW these are VERY EASY DIY projects and Don't pay the $50+ on one.

i forgot to add, another shower tradition i love is to build the baby a library. so each guest comes with their favorite childrens book, and write a little note to mom&baby in it. great way to get books!!

Such cute and awesome ideas.

Kel, the butterfies are adorable.  I can see why you love them.  The book idea is awesome.  I love to read and love to encourage it in others, so I will pass this idea on to Lily.  See what she thinks, too.

I love that sling.  Too cute!

You ladies are awesome!

Pretty exciting to prepare for grandbaby #2.  I look forward to it.

The last shower I went to we decorated onesies and bibs there were stations set up and they had iron ons and paint pens etc then accross the butt part we wrote made with love by and we signed our name and then we hung them on a clothes line and they became part of the decor.
