POLL: BM's dresses - short or long?

I'm thinking shorter dresses are more popular these days but I thought I'd get your feedback. What lengths have you chosen?

I'm really torn between something tea length (why DO they call it that??) or long. I was thinking the shorter dresses might be good for a spring wedding and work well with my dress but then one of the BMs said that short was casual which isn't really the look I'm going for so now I'm stuck..

originally i wanted a knee length.  I decided to go with long because our wedding is at night in the fall and i wanted a more formal feel.

I wanted long, but my stylish design bridesmaid who keeps up on all the trends these days said tea-length...so i went tea length.  yeah I am hard to persuade.

we're doing knee length.  i wanted to pick a dress that my girls would be more likely to wear again and that length was most likely.  my wedding is at 5:00 in the evening in the fall and i don't think they are too casual.  you can pick a more dressy shorter length.  these are our's...

My original vision was to go long. But then I started thinking about comfort of my girls. But my wedding is in May, so it might be really hot, and it also might not. I also figured that we would have a easier time finding something cost effective for them in a short style. I guess it just depends on what style you are thinking of. Long does look more formal, and very elegant. I guess I am not very much help! lol

I think it all depends on the "feel" of the wedding.  I personally like long because I think it is more formal, glamorous and elegant, (the feel that I'm going for).  However I've seen some BMs in short dresses, (shorter than the knee but not "club short") and they looked very modern and stylish.

thanks for the advice. beatie/wmforever - both of those BM dresses are really nice and definitely not casual which is making me lean towards something short.

aussie...we have same date, of course, my Matron of Honor (only attendant) is choosing either knee or tea-length...our wedding is in the evening...so i guess if she wants she can do floor length...i'm leaving it up to her, something nice in black.

I like the short (little pass the knee) dress.  But since my bridesmaid were all different sizes it just looks more coordinated to have the longer dress.  Plus everyone felt comfortable.  Yay !!!

We originally found a long black dress, then randomly switched it to a short one (knee length)  last minute.  I'm so much more happy with this decision, especially since its a summer wedding and I didn't want it to look too formal/dark with the black....
