I need advice....I remember last November in Southern California we had thanksgiving outside because it was so nice but do I dare test the weather on my special day?

Ehhh... it's VERY if-y in November. It can either be beautiful, rainy, or have horrible Santa Ana winds. Where exactly are you looking at holding the wedding?

We're torn between a dinner cruise reception in Newport Beach (but that would eat up are budget fast and limit us to 4 hrs) or a historical downtown rooftop.

Sounds awesome. I know nothing about SoCal. So I can't give my opinion, but your ideas sound fabulous.

I love both ideas! We considered the dinner cruise in Newport. Does the rooftop also offer indoor space?

I would have it inside.  I lived in San Diego for 8 years.  If it's not misty/rainy then, the Santa Ana winds are howling and if there are fires in the area, it's really smoky outside.

Thanks for all your input ladies!!! I am leaning towards indoors. The Rooftop building is actually the Art museum downtown. They have indoor space also but it's not really my style...we're not into art that much and just want a romantic setting for our day.

Shenanigans- Can I ask why you did not go with the dinner cruise?

Did you check the farmer's almenac?  I think it's usually clear around Thanksgiving but you never know.  Just make sure you have a back up plan, indoors or renting a tent.  I went to a wedding the day after Thanksgiving 2009, the weather was great but if I remember correctly it was really raining the week before.

We were offered a better deal at the place we had it at. Also, we didn't want to restrict our guests to being trapped on a cruise ship. DH gets sea sick easily, and although it was just a harbor type dinner cruise, we didn't want to have any guests get sick.

I think the rooftop sounds romantic but if it's windy or smoky?? That is a hard ?

I would do inside.  I've lived in So Cal my entire life and I wouldn't trust the weather.  It can be really fickle.  In November it can be beautiful one day and horrible the next day.  I worked as a bridal makeup artist for sevral years and I can' tell you how many weddings I saw that had to move indoors in Oct/Nov/Dec in So Cal because of crazy weather changes.

Don't trust So Cal weather. =-/

WELL from my experience I would say OUTSIDE! I got married Nov 20th last year in Los Angeles.. and because I was weddin planning I remember the weather perfectly!

Both first weekends were nice & warm, the 13th (sat before the 20th) it was hot even!.. When it came down to the 17th it was gloomy and it rained on my wedding day. It poured in the morning and by the afternoon it stopped. We were able to take pics outside but it was chilli, and the sun came out so it was nice. Sunday, the day after my wedding was so nice and sunny no rain and the week after for Thanksgiving was very nice :)

November weather is nice but there is always that risk that it might rain... The only days it rained on my wedding month was my wedding day LOL.. it happens!

But we got a rainbow so it was nice and everything worked out in the end.
