Poll seated or Buffet?

Hello dolls ! hope yall having awesome day so far. Trying to decide what type of menu we want plated or buffet. after the ceremony the appitizers will be passed during cocktail hr and we will also have some stations of like fruit, cheese, dips stuff, a little torn on the food. I went to 5 weddings last /this year and they all were buffet. some long lines some it went smoothly. I like buffet because it gives guest options of getting only what they want. But plated seems to have all guest get food faster. HMM decisions decisions.. my caterer i am meeting with suggested double buffet for faster but the hall isnt really set up big enough unless we offer second buffet stations outside on terrace area where the cocktail hour will be.

For our wedding we had plated meals.  I prefer plated because of the potential long lines that can occur during weddings.  However it's your day and it's whatever you feel willbe most comfortable for you and your guests.

I have never been to a wedding that wasn't a buffet. I expect to have a bit of a wait in the buffet lines if it's a big wedding but it doesn't bother me. There's so much going on, so much to look at and so many people to talk to and interact with that the wait doesn't seem long anyway. I think that doing the one buffet set-up would be fine if that's what you would prefer to do.

If you like buffet then do that. I'm sure that it would be fine. :)

I am wondering the same thing myself.  Buffet seems to give more options but plated seems quicker and smoother.

Is the plated option a total pain to deal with on the invitations though?  I worry about that.

We ended up doing plated even though I originally wanted a buffet. It was cheaper for us to do so, msotly because we were not allowed outside catering.

As far as the invitations, we just did the choose one for each member of your party, and it worked out. I used a system on our placecards to let the serving staff know what the person had ordered.

If I can find a venue :'(, we are going w/ plated. Much smoother and when all the waiters come out at the same time, looks awesome and everyone eats at the same time.

ok so we are leaning to buffet but with two buffet stations with same stuff so there is two lines so it wont be so long. The appitizers will be a station and passed with waiters.

How many guests are you having? If it is approx. 150 or over, I think it would be better to have a plated meal. However, if you're having a smaller affair, buffet will be fine. We had a buffet at our wedding but we only had 60 guests. Thank goodness because we had so much trouble with our RSVPs and most guests didn't send them back. Also a plated meal is more expensive in our area. I believe they charge more for the service (waitstaff) not for the food. Also buffet stations are a good option!

It really depends on what you like and what kind of food you want to serve. Also on the amount of guests. I was at a wedding this weekend that was buffet with over 300 guests. We had finished eating for about 10 minutes and there were still tables being called up….

Buffet is great because you have lots of choices – not great because people are waiting for food. Can also be MUCH more expensive. People seem to think it’s the “cheaper” option but its not at all. Plated meals you know what you are getting. One meal, one plate, one set of utensils. With a buffet you need to over estimate because you don’t want the people at the end of the line starving, if people go for seconds you needs to make sure that there are enough plates etc…

We went with plated and gave 3 choices of food on the RSVP and those that didn’t RSVP on time were given the cheaper of the options.  I liked how smooth it went and everyone ate at the same time. As I said it’s the choice of the couple and the guests will be happy as long as the food is yummy and hot.

We did family style - the food is served on platters at each table and people then help themselves to the food they want to eat. Great because no lines and people can continue to sit there and chat while they wait to get their food plus people can avoid certain foods or eat more of the ones they like.
