POLL: Unique/Creative Ideas

I'm brainstorming with my mom for some Unique/creative wedding ideas.  I wanted to know:

What unique/creative ideas have you seen at a wedding?

It can be something that you incorporated, participated in, witnessed or snooped from another bride.  SHARE, POST PICTURES!  Don't forget to source, so that we can all scope it out!

*Remember that just because it's all over PW or other wedding forms doesn't mean that it's less unique or creative.  It's those little touches that make a wedding special or memorable.  Something that gets the guest involved etc.  Lets inspire each other with some "make your wedding special" advice!  POST AWAY!

here's what I've come up with this evening:

Vintage Postcards- Have a post card (stamped and mailing address already filled out) at every placement with a little note asking your guest to write a message to the Bride and Groom.  Then collect them at the end of the evening and have the DOC or MOH drop them off in the mail.  The Bride and Groom will return with little messages from their guest on their wedding date!  The postcards can also be used as Escort cards.  Use numbers and post a card per couple under that number, or have a designated question as their "number."  the guest will answer the question on their post card!

Wishing stones- 1. Little smooth garden stones.  Have your guest write their name on the stone.  Collect them at the end of the night to place in your garden at home! 2. have a stone placed on all of the seats of your guest.  At some point during the ceremony, instruct your guest to make a wish!  As they make their wait out of the ceremony location, have a pretty apothecary jar waiting to collect the stones.  Great keepsake for your mantle!

Midnight snack-  Don't let you guest leave hungry!  With all of that dancing and parting, your guest will LOVE a little "party in their tummy!"

Don't Drink and Drive- Make sure your guest get home safe!  Have small business cards by the bar with phone numbers to the local cab service.  This can be done in a very classy way!  Classy and informed is better than being smashy and behind bars...if your lucky!

To be totally honest the only "creative" things I have seen were at my own wedding!  Every other wedding I have been to has been pretty traditional, still lovely though :)  Most of these ideas aren't creative to PW but my guests had never seen them:

  • flip flop basket

  • flower unity ceremony

  • pomanders

  • RB with a briefcase & sunglasses

  • crossword puzzle menus

  • signature drinks

  • bar floral arrangements

  • shrimp cocktail place cards

  • mailbox/photo card escort card display

  • chocolate fountains (including pink chocolate)

  • fruit centerpieces

  • uplighting

  • caricature

  • bathroom baskets

  • thank you parasol

  • BMs signing my shoes

  • dress label

  • cake signs

  • heart shaped sparklers

I caught this on 4 Weddings on TLC I will Google and try to find it....

Each table had a song and they HAD to get up and shake their money makers when that song came on =)

I want to put a twist on it and have each table do a word game of trivia answers about us and use one or two letter from each answer to figure out their song =) hope that makes sense?!?! If our guest don't know each other it opens conversation and also gets my dance floor full =)

The things my parents and FI are wowed by (because guests haven't seen them yet).  I have never been to a wedding with any of these:

  • chargers

  • cake flavor flags (put in each slice for when they are served with the late night buffet so guests know what they're grabbing)

  • cake signs (for wedding cake and groom's cake)

  • flip-flop basket

  • photo booth AND custom, personalized photo booth sign

  • custom water bottles

  • colored crinoline

  • dress label

  • framed Disneyland & Disney World responses (we sent them invites!)

  • uplighting

  • children's goodie bags filled with toys, stickers, candy, and activity books

Ooh, I also LOVE the idea of a table with framed photos of parents and grandparents on their wedding days.  Unfortunately it doesn't work for us - one set of my grandparents are divorced, and FI's parents are divorced.

We are also doing the Blessing Of The Rings. Our rings will be passed around to the first two rows of our VIP guests and they will each have an opportunity to say a blessing or a wish for us.

"Memory Chair" for my grandmother, her picture will sit on a front row chair decorated in flowers.

We are doing the ring blessing as well...

We are doing a pic of all of our guests that will later be placed in the "guest book frame"

We are doing pics of our friends and families pets as table names since we are donating to the SPCA in remembrance of FIs mom.

FI is giving my kids engraved jewelery (a ring for my 13 year old daughter and a bracelet for my 11 year old son) with vows to them. (maybe not super creative but sweet)

We are on our way in from our grand entrance we will light a candle at FIs moms picture and then go into our first dance (again I don't know how creative this is but I have never seen it)

I think my kids activity nooks are pretty cool. But you'll have to wait until after the wedding to see them! :P

Again, a lot of this is old news to PW, but for my guests it'll be pretty cutting edge:

In Jamaica:

  • We're going to buy postcards there for our guests to sign as the "guest book"

  • a beach wedding- guaranteed none of them have ever been to one (or a DW for that matter)

  • Personalized gift bags as favours (hand delivered before departure)

  • DIY passport style invitations

  • 'Bonded Family' medallion portion of the ceremony- FI will give my daughter the bonded family medallion and pledge to be her dad for the rest of her life

In Ottawa:

  • flip flop basket

  • bathroom basket

  • photo mat "guest book"

  • candy buffet

  • waterfall lighting

Our big "unique" idea was doing rock, paper, scissors to see who would read their vows first :)
