Poll: Vow Renewals

I know you 2009 and 2010 brides are currently planning our first weddings, but I was wondering how many of you have thought of or plan on renewing your vow at the 5, 10 or 15 year mark?

FI and I have talked about it a bit.  We are looking at waiting until we have achieved a certain income level with our business, then doing a HUGE fancy renewel.  :)  Probably at the 5 year mark.

Ohhh destination renewal sounds wonderful! I would like to do one of those every year! I think vow renewals are so romantic- I am trying to talk my sister into letting me plan one for her and her husband, they have been married 11 years now, so she is due!

If it means I can have a beautiful wedding, I'd do it every year! lol... But I think something less costly at 5 years is probably what we'll do.

It has been interesting planning ours. But I am sure it will turn out nice and we will have a great time. We have been married for about 6.5 yrs now.

It's great because our daughter who is 5 will be involved. She is teh flower girl and we are also having a candle lighting ceremony. She will be involved with that as well.

If I did it, I don't think I would do it until our 20 year mark at least, if at all. By that point you've been through it all with each other, have almost grown kids...I think it would mean more. But then I look at my parents who just celebrated 40 years this past June and they have no need for it. They don't feel the need to have a new ceremony to reconfirm what they already know...my mom has a teeny diamond ring on a plain band that couldn't have cost my dad much at all at the time - they could easily afford to upgrade but my mom refuses. Its the ring he put on her finger the day he married her and she doesn't want a new one. There's something so sweet about keeping that first wedding day\ring as the only one. I'm sure if I wasn't able to have had the party attached to my wedding that I did, I might feel differently, but at this point I don't think we would....

Michelle, I know what you mean. We are doing this only because we eloped the first time and didn't have a wedding.

If we had a wedding the first time around, we probably would not have a vow renewal.

ditto beatie.  my parents are 30 years married yesterday and havent had one. maybe a little something in 30 years would be nice for us. but defenitly not as grand (nor as planned) as our wedding.

Actually I am doing my 15 year renewal next year on our anniversary!  It has been fun looking around the site.  Great ideas here.

I hadn't even thought of it yet. A few years ago my grandparents did one for their 50th. They went to the courthouse to get married the very next day after he got out of the army, so she never had a "ceremony". all the grandchildren stood up as bridesmaids and groomsmen and that was really special. Honestly, I think if we do a renewal it will be just a small something-I don't want to plan another wedding after we have kids : ) Maybe a small destination type thing with immediate family only. That would be sweet.

Back in January, FI attended his friends' destination renewal in Merida.  He said he had a blast and for them it was great to reconfirm their vows after everything they've been through.  I think every couple is different.  For us...we'd want to have an at-home-reception maybe on our first anniversary since we are having a DW and so many of our friends and family cannot come.  But after that...it would probably be 25 years before we do this again.

I think we'll probably do one, but I don't know when - probably not until at least 10 years. And I think it would be something small, probably just the two of us.
