POLL: Who plans on adopting children?

My FH and I have thought about this... Neither of us wants another child at this point (he has one from a previous marriage), but we have thought of it as a possibility down the line. We would love to give a child a loving home, if we felt ready for it. The more it comes up, the more he seems to like the idea...

Being that I do adoptions for a living, I've always seen it as an option. DH and I want to try to have a child the biological way but if that doesn't work, our next plan would be to adopt! :)

I have always wanted to adopt one day. My grandfather was a orphan and I remember him talking about how there would be days where people would come in to adopt and they would get dressed up but since he was older he was always passed over since most people want a baby. He never got a home but went on to marry my grandmother and have 7 children. I still always wanted to give someone a home that may not get one like he didn't. I've mentioned it to FH but he hasn't been really into it so who knows but one day maybe I'll be able to convince him.

We've both spent some time abroad on missions trips, and that definitely made an impression on us as far as the conditions of kids in third world countries... so we've talked about international adoption as a possible option someday...

I have always wanted to adopt vs. giving birth! I don't think I would do international adoption or adopt a baby... maybe someone in the 5 year range or older. I just don't like hearing about how older kids not getting adopted.

We definitely plan on adopting!  There are so many wonderful kids out there deserving of a good home.  My cousin is adopted and we love him to death.  For us, it was a simple "why not" adopt a child.  We'd love him/her just the same :)  It will be years before we do so and there's so much to learn about the process, but I am excited nonetheless.

Yay! I'm so glad to see that others are thinking about adoption too... FI's mom was adopted, although she did eventually reconnect with her bio family (which makes it hard for me to keep her family tree straight). We've considered international adoption, but there are so many children in the States needing homes too. I guess we'd just have to do some research to see what would be best for us & a child...

Jackieg, I'm adopted too!

I'm so happy to hear people on here are considering adoption.  It takes a big heart and is such a wonderful thing.  Hopefully I can adopt as well as have some of my own.  I want to give a child the gift I had, but also have the experience of seeing some babies that look like me.  It'll be so cool for someone to say "he/she has your eyes/nose/mouth" since my parents and me are like night and day!

If we can't have babies, we'll definitely be adopting! I'm dying to be a mommy, and my mom had trouble conceiving me (no trouble after that - my bros came just fine) so I'm a little nervous we might too. We have time on our side, so it'll be a ways down the road if we do adopt, but it's definitely a great plan B for us.

There's adoption in my family too - my grandma was one of 18 (5 sets of twins!), who were all put into the foster care system when she was 3 years old. She never was adopted, but had a wonderful foster mom who my mom calls her grandma. Also, my parents adopted three children (my cousin and her two half-sibs who were taken out of their home after abuse) a year ago this month, and it has been such an amazing thing for both my parents and the kids - it's been very inspirational to me! We'll definitely make sure we have some kiddos one way or the other :)

LOL, Jax...

I don't know if I could handle a kid who has already learned to talk back! Might have to find us a newborn!

my parents almost adopted a little boy and a little girl whom we took in and fostered since birth. long story. but not having it go through was such a heartbreak for them (and us since we loved them to death) and i dont know if i could go through that again if it didnt work out (the kids dad suddenly wanted them again after neglecting them). its so difficult, expensive, and emotional trying to adopt. and if i cant have my own children i really hope God gives me the strength to go throught hat process again.

oh Mare, that happened to my ex's cousin...he was fostering a little boy, then the mom wanted him back...he ended up having to go to court to testify that she was an unfit druggie mother....

Mare, that's so sad... It is definitely a potential heartbreaker. I've seen a lot of couples beaten down by the process and all the near-misses.
