Pregnancy pillows?

Hi everyone! As I roll into the second trimester of pregnancy (already?!), I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable sleeping on my stomach. I was thinking about investing in one of those pregnancy pillows, but wanted to see what you ladies have to say first. Have you purchased one? Do you use it? Love it? Which one?

They're not inexpensive so any input would be much appreciated. :) TIA!

Wow, second tri for you already! Yay! :-)

I am (was before pregnancy) a stomach sleeper and it has been such a tough transition for me! I bought a cheap body pillow early on and it was way too hot/bulky in the bed. I think I would have loved one of those full-sized pregnancy pillows, but I couldn't quite justify the cost. I did end up getting a Boppy wedge pillow about a month ago and I really wish I had done it sooner. (I want to say it was around $15 or so?) It definitely comes in handy when I sleep, especially now that my belly is bigger. It helps "hold up" my belly so that it is not hanging down when I sleep on my side.

My usual setup is a cheap, flat pillow (regular standard pillow you would get at Target/Walmart) and the Boppy wedge pillow. I put one on either side of me, so that my belly and back are both supported. It works well and is the only way I can sleep comfortably. It also allows me to switch sides during the night. DH calls it the fortress! Lol :-)

Hope this helps a little bit!

Yes - this helps so much! Thank you! :)

I've always been a stomach sleeper, too... pretty much the only way I can sleep! Even when I start off on my side at night, I find myself on my belly halfway through the night, but it's starting to feel kind of tight and uncomfortable and even wakes me up. I saw the wedge pillows at Babies R Us, so maybe I'll get one of those! I can't believe the body pillows are, like, $65. Ouch!!

Thanks again, lady :)

I admit, I got my full body pillow early in my first trimester when Target was having their big baby sale, so I got a pretty good discount.  I bought the Boppy Total Body Pillow, and I've used it a few times for what it's to be used for, though for the first trimester, I've mostly folded it in half and used it to support my feet at night.  As it gets uncomfortable for me to lay on my stomach, I'll go to using it as intended.  And actually, msdl has a fantastic idea that may work even better.

My DH bought me a boppy body pillow for Christmas because I was just about to enter into my 2nd trimester and sleeping was getting difficult for me and I was normally a back sleeper so I was having trouble staying on my side. It took a while to get the hang of it and to come up with a system that worked for me, but once I did figure it out, it helped me sleep a lot better. I have a very similar "techniqe" (lol) as msdl-- I lay my back against the body pillow with one end under my head and the other end between my legs and I put a normal pillow under my belly to support the weight, or else I'll wake up super sore there. Oh and I also have to have a fan or the AC blowing right on me or else I sweat like crazy with all those pillows. Wow it sounds so complicated when I explain it haha. You'll find out very soon as your belly gets bigger that sleeping definitely becomes an art during pregnancy!

How funny, I am starting to get uncomfortable too. Though I have always slept on my side so that's not a huge issue for me. My hubby finally agreed to get us a new mattress since our old one was putting so much strain on my back and I know the next few months are just going to be worse. I will wait to see how my new mattress goes before I decide to buy a pregnancy pillow though lol.

YES -- ditto Lauren. Once your belly gets bigger, a comfortable setup is a MUST. I thought I was uncomfortable early to mid second trimester, but oh goodness...I was not prepared for how much tougher it would get to sleep comfortably towards the end. It's good that you are looking for options now!

I am quickly approaching the time where I will need to purchase a wedge pillow... I am a stomach sleeper all the way (still, even at almost 25 weeks), but slowly I find myself doing the half stomach/half side thing. But I think I am going to try to go with the wedge like msdl. I feel so smothered and suffucated when there is too much going on (like a full body boppy pillow). We shall see...
