Hi ladies! Who has been traveling during pregnancy? If so, when (at how many weeks) and where? Did you fly?
At about 26 weeks I went to FL for the week. We drove (about 12 hours). The only problem I had was swelling.
I just flew at 31+ weeks to Indiana for my friends bachelorette party/shower! Was a busy busy weekend and I was wiped out when I got home! haha
I am also flying back there for her actual wedding that I am a bridesmaid in at 35 weeks pregnant. Doctor said it was fine - just to drink plenty of water! My baby certainly could feel the presuure on the airplane though! It was going crazy and I was having the BH contractions! My chiro said to lay my headphones on my belly and it will soothe the baby next time I fly! :)
Thanks ladies! I'm 8 weeks and before I got pregnant we thought we would take a 2 week holiday end of April. But that will be pretty early (weeks 13 and 14), and I just don't know what to do. Is it too early to make long distance flight (europe to usa for example)? Now we're thinking about going on a trip much later, that is middel of July...
Bump for more! Thanks!
Oh gosh I'm going to be travelling a LOT in the next two months!Next weekend I'm flying to Vegas with some girlfriends for a bachelorette party (I'll be 18 weeks, almost 19 when we come home)
In April we're going to Hawaii for 10 days, we think. Haven't booked it yet, but it sounds like a done deal, we've decided to go, just need to get our tickets! Babymoon! I'll be 20 - 22 weeks or so
In May we're going to Reno for our first baby shower, I'll be 24 weeks or so.
In June we're probably going to Connecticut. . .I'll be 28 weeks or so.
Oy. . .and I HATE FLYING. Hate it. But I'm going to suck it up and deal :)That said, I've heard it's safe to fly - get an aisle seat, pee OFTEN (the altitude will put even MORE pressure on your bladder), drink a LOT of fluids, keep your blood sugar stable, and it's all good! One of my best friends flew to England when she was 12 weeks - no reason you can't do the same. I wouldn't fly internationally after say, 30 weeks?
I dont think that's too early at all! That's the best time to fly overseas since you are not really showing yet and are not uncomfortable sitting for long periods (as long as you dont have m/s or anything).
Traveling long distance now (32 weeks) would probably be a struggle since I am getting bigger and hate sitting in the same spot for more than an hour... so if you are planning a long flight - I would do it sooner rather than later.
I didn't fly at all during my pregnancy *I didn't try to avoid it, we just didn't have anywhere to go* we did take a few trips, the longest being to the Jersey Shore/Cape May area - about 6 hours both ways when I was 22 weeks. No issues!
DH and I went on our babymoon to Mexico at around 30 weeks in December, and I went "home" to see family/friends at 33 weeks... biggest issue was swelling. On trip#2 I wore compression stockings, they seemed to do the trick. I took a plane both trips
I dont think youre too early. I went from Canada to the Dominican republic when I was 6 weeks came home when I was 7 weeks. Everything was all good :)
I hate flying and haven't done it while pregnant. I have taken some longish drives, and as long as we take plenty of rest stops so I can walk around and use the bathroom, it's fine.
MountainBride- I live in CT! I wonder if you will be close to where I am when you come!
Missie we have familiy in Hartford/Vernon - where are you at!? Would love to visit! ! !
We fly at least once a month to visit our families and I continued to fly from 9 weeks up until I was about 31 weeks. After that I chose to stop because it just wore me out each time. It was still perfectly safe for me to fly and most airlines will "let" you fly up until 37 weeks without a note from the doctor. Some airlines don't have a policy about it at all.
I just needed to remember to stay hydrated, get up and stretch my legs, stay hydrated and stay hydrated. :-)
I think you will be fine to fly long distance at that stage. We just spent the weekend in Paris (one and a half hour flight from here) and I am 21 weeks, was totally fine, I just had to pee more than usual!
I flew to Malaysia at 10 weeks and New York (from UK) at about 20 and had no problems except not being able to use mosquito repllant in Malaysia.
I flew at 15 and 16 weeks and was fine. My flight schedule was horrible so I found I was exhausted from the long days of travel, but other than that I was fine. I tried to stay hydrated and had healthy snacks on hand, just to keep my energy up.
We traveled sometime in May and due date was 8/22, so I'm guessing it was about 28 weeks?
We flew and not only did we fly, we went to Bryce national park, at the elevation of 8K - 10K feet. I've heard pregnant ladies being overly sensitive to elevation, but I was fine. The plane trip was fine. I don't remember anything particularly unpleasant.
I wouldn't fly too late in the 3rd trimester though. The bathroom trips will be a pain!
I flew to South Carolina from MI when I was 19 weeks for my best friends wedding. I was absolutely fine. However, I almost got sick right when I got on the plane because it was SUPER hot with no air flow, and I got nauseous easily if I didn't have air blowing on me 24/7 lol.
Oh thanks ladies for all your replies!!! DH and I have now decided, that we wait until my 1st tri-test, which will be April 18. If all is good, then we will take the holiday right away and just book something spontaneous and just do what we feel like. If the doc says I shoudl wait, then we will go in July.
Thanks again! *hugs*
