Prepping DH?

I like the conversation going in the thread about prepping ourselves, so I'm wondering what, if any, lifestyle changes your DH is making.  I know they don't carry the baby for 9 months, but as I recently read they contribute half the genetic makeup and I liked that point being reinforced.

DH is working out more, and watching what he eats a bit more closely.  He also has bad knees (both have been operated on), so he went to the docs for a check-up and to get a prescription for a knee brace for the worst one.  We know he'll need surgery again sometime, but we want to postpone it doesn't interfere with TTC and little babies.

I'm going to put DH on a multi-vitamin in the near future.  He's been warned!  haha.  Until it's habit for him, I think I'll be reminding him a lot to take it.

I told him when we actively conceive, especially if we know it's during my most fertile days, I want him off alcohol.  Gotta help the dudes swim, LOL.

DH likes to do his research, so I want to get him this book.  I may also order 1 or 2 other fun looking guy books.  http://www.amazon.com/The-Cavemans-Pregnancy-Companion-Expectant/dp/140273526X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361974663&sr=8-1&keywords=cavemans+guide+to+pregnancy

I had FI do the same as me, cut back on alcohol & caffine, healthy eating etc - I don't know which it was, but something worked!!

FI read this and really enjoyed it, he passed it on to his friend and we bought a copy for my brother last year, it gives facts without being too factual!! I read it too and loved it

Good post!

I think my DH is still trying to wrap his head around TTC. I gave him one extra month of me on BC, but I told him I'm taking myself off of it this month. I think planning a few months in advance of TTC is helping him cope.

So far DH had been with me on our lifestlye/eating change; cutting processed foods, and working out regularly. DH has dropped a good 15 pounds. He's taking vitamins and he is on a cholsterol medicine, but I believe his doctor will take him off of this in May when he has his checkup. He doesn't drink so I won't have to worry about that. He doesn't drink much caffeine either so I don't think that will be tough for him to cut. I'm wondering about tea though. Athena, I know you posted about green tea and folic acid for woman. DH loves tea, should I look into anything there?

Good call on caffeine!  DH doesn't drink more than 1 cup a day, but I'll just tell him to really watch it closer to D-day ;-)

nicoleleblanc I honestly don't know.  My guess would be that it's okay for guys.  There is something in green tea that prevents the absorption of folate/folic acid.  Guys don't need the volumes of folate/folic acid like we do, so it may not be an issue.  My DH rarely drinks tea, so I haven't looked into it too much.  Like Canook said, maybe just have him watch his overall caffeine intake?

DH started going to the gym a LOT more, cut down on caffeine to one espresso a day and also wanted to sort himself out physically/emotionally etc - he had a check up with the doc for some of his health problems which are being sorted and he's also done a lot of research.  He's been taking multivitamins, feraglobin and cod liver oil.  He's always eaten healthy but I'm so proud of how much of an effort he's put in!

DH didn't do too much to prep but if it had taken us longer than 6 months to get our BFP I would have asked him to change more. He did however start drinking more water, tried remembering his vitamens daily, and cut back on beer/alcohol as well as energy drinks.
