price per head?

So, I'm loving one place after looking at 4 so far... but it's $125/person, after deducting certain things, am I crazy!?!?   Are you girls spending that much per person!?!?  Is that average and I'm just a cheapskate or what!?!?!

This includes a cocktail dinner, not seated, beer and wine and signature martini, and linens, (20 color selections) and cake.

Please fill me in!

Ditto athena - it will vary depending on what is included in that price.

I believe our per head price was $120 or so...that included beverages, 3 course menu and hors d'oeuvres.

it also depends on the region.  if you're having your wedding in the NY/NJ area, that is about average.

If you aren't getting a sit-down meal in with that price it seems realllly expensive.

    Sorry, did not realize that it the price did NOT include a sit down meal.  That is expensive.

    Banquet halls and wedding venues (the all-inclusive kind) in the central/ north NJ area range about $150- $250 per head for a Saturday night, sit-down dinner, open bar, etc.

This price also includes rental of the reception facility.

    Also included in the above package:

    It seems high to me, but I also don't know what kind of venue this is...is it a highly sought after place with a reputation to uphold?  Middle of the road?

    I agree, with Lalu, if that is all you are getting for that price...you should look elsewhere.

    Just for food not including alcohol and cake it is 33 dollars a head if we have 125 people at the wedding i'm hopeing we don't have that many people. But we will see. That 33 dollars includes table linens, tables for food, servers, bartender, and clean up crew, pizza, salad and appetizers. I'm guessing with alcohol and cupcakes it will be about 50 dollars per person.

    LoriElijah5 I'm with you the NJ and NY area has a very high per person cost. But they are place's they are just hard to find our ends up to be 60 the most, with choice of lobster, steak, or ribs plus pig roast and all the sides imaginable, and open bar for 5 hrs.

    Agreed, venues can be had for less than $100 but with some sacrifices.  During pre Cana, I met a few brides comparing venue prices.  Two brides were having their wedding at the same venue in Stirling, NJ, La Primavera.  The one whose wedding was in May paid about $125pp.  The other bride, paid $79pp but her wedding was in February.  My own venue was discounted more than 50% because I chose a Saturday afternoon, instead of a Saturday night.

    Price per head will depend on many, many factors, (time of year, time of day, menu selections, décor, etc).  Make sure you’re comparing apples to apples when selecting your venue.

    I'd venture to say that with food being $19 a head, the venue being a little under $2,000, our per person cost will wind up being in the neighborhood of $50-$60.

    It seems pricey for non sit-down, but it also doesn't surprise me for NY/NJ.  I'm planning something in San Francisco and a lot of packages hover around at >$100 with what you have included.

    Yup if your looking at a more upscale venue in a more expensive part of the US, you might be right. Although you could shop around to some of the less sought after places. For example my venue is a 5 star hotel in California in a very chic/urban area. My hotel doesnt really advertise weddings there but we just happened to be staying there when we saw a wedding going on. Its more of a weekday/business hotel but it is sooo beautifu!
    For this reason we got amazing deal $100/ppl to include:
    * Butler passed chapmagne upon arrival
    * Outdoor ceremony/Ballroom reception with complete setup/breakdown
    * Butler passed hors d' ourves
    * 2 signature drinks
    * Silver chivari chairs
    * All linens & cutlery
    * Seated dinner (filet mignon w/prawns or maine lobster tail)
    * Dance floor
    * 3 bottles of wine for each table
    * Champagne for toasts
    * Cake of our choice
    * Complimentary honeymoon suite with breakfast in bed for the next morning!
    Definitely shop around :-) good luck
