Primer - ??? any thoughts?

so i was looking around sephora yesterday (for makeup brushes, actually) and came across their display of makeup primer. it's supposed to give the skin a good foundation for the makeup.

Yep. I actually have both between the bare minerals for oily skin (it's much better than the regular one) and smashbox photofinish (the regular one). I find that the smashbox alone makes my skin smoother and holds the makeup better than BM alone, BUT if you mix them, it's perfect. :)

I've only ever used MAC's Prep + Prime which I really like.  Would you girls say that the Smashbox ones are a lot better?

What does it do exactly? Just hold the makeup?

i think it's supposed to smooth the face, make the makeup go on and stay on better...like creating a nice canvas. but i read that not everyone needs it - like if you have descent complexion to start without scars/acne, u dont really need it. but it does keep make up stay longer...i'm not a primer expert though. i'm just trying it out myself...

I have tried Benefit's 'that gal' primer also the Bare Minerals. I think I will give Smashbox a try, I keep hearing good things about it.

I use it because it preps my face (evens out) for foundation to go on smooth :-)

I always breakout from everything and the only one that does the job for me with no breakouts is Nars primer with the spf 20 in it.  I won't use anything else.

I just started using a primer, I like Smashbox's & Sephora's brand as well.  It makes your sking feel very silky, so your make-up glides on smoothly, evenly and it makes your make-up last longer.  Especially for me, as I have oily skin.
