Proactive

So, maybe its the stress of planning a wedding but my young vibrant skin is turning into crap! Like Jessica Simpson on the Proactive commercial I am getting under the skin breakouts. Has anyone used Proactive, or have any other suggestion to get my face in shape for the big day (78 days!!!!)

I did some research on Proactive, because I was interested in using it.  What I have read was that once you start using it, you cant really stop!  I read reviews that once you stop using Proactive, your skin breaks out even worse than before.  Reading that stopped me from even thinking about using it.

My FI has been using Proactive for a couple of months now, and we have both noticed a big difference in his skin - it is definitely clearer, and it makes his pores smaller.  In the almost 12 years I've known him, I've never seen his skin look so good!  Proactive probably works only for certain people, so I'm guessing it's kind of a crap shoot.

I used Proactiv a few years ago and I had to stop because my skin was getting really itchy... not dry skin itchy, but rash itchy. And it really made my skin dry and wrinkles a lot more obvious. Which was very frustrating because I suffer from adult acne and I hoped that Proactiv would be the miracle product. I talked to my Dr and I guess my skin is very sensitive to being over-medicated. So, now I use St Ives Apricot Scrub every other day and a mild Oil of Olay cleanser every day. And my skin really likes it. I agree with JD that it seems to be a crap shoot with Proactiv.

If you don't want to commit to the Proactiv program or the expense, Costco sells a product that's a generic version of Proactiv, but for much cheaper. From what I've read, the ingredients are the same. You can see it here.

Good luck!

Obagi is one of my mom's clients, it is awesome to hear people talking about it! When they first became her client (she is the president of a bank) she brought home all this stuff of theirs (oh ya, she gets a ton of stuff in her position) and we all LOVED it! They had (probably still have) a sunscreen that was FAB!

I swear my Proactiv! I guess everyone's skin is different but it really worked for me. I would test it out first before committing to it and see if it agrees with your skin. But my skin never looked better when I was using it.

What happened to good old Retin-A?

About six months before the wedding I started Retin-A for my mild adult acne. I had tried everything else before - including different kinds of topical and oral antibiotics and nothing worked. So, I decided on my own that Retin-A was the solution. And I am so glad I listened to my intuition! My skin looked great for the wedding and still does! If you have any questions, PM me!

I love proactive.  i've been using it for about 9 months.  But beware...the first 2-3 months I started getting huge pimples.  I was warned of this before so I knew this could happen.  But after about 3 months, I havent gotten any breakouts.  I know I cant stop using proactive because I may break out so even though its pricey, I am addicted!

I think you should try microdermabrasion every two to three weeks before your wedding.  I dont think there is much risk of breakouts and as long as you get at least 4 sessions in (depending on the conditon of your skin) you should be fine.

Good luck

Hi, did proactive for a year and i didnt notice much difference. If possible, go to your dermotologist. They will give you a similar but stronger wash than proactive (and its cheaper!!!). The wash and retinol cleared my acne in a month.

I just started up on Proactiv again this past month. The stress of the planning has gotten to me and I want clear since for the big day! Like Vikanita, I noticed some blemishes during the month I started using it and also some mild skin dryness. I've used it in the past and my skin never looked better. So I'm looking forward to having clear skin again! :)

i use it i love it and so does FI i use it everyday and after a week my face was fine i started using it in High School when everyone was breaking out i had great skin and people always commented on how great my skin looks.

I really do swear by it as well.  I don't use it everyday anymore but I still love it. and They use the same stuff thats in prescription crap the dermatologist gives (thats what mine told me).  BTW I stated my series of facials 2 months ago I go every 3 weeks it has really helped!

I used to work in the skin care industry and Proactive and Dermalogica have the worst reputations.  As some people have already said, once you start using it you can't stop or you will break out.  Also the ingredients those two companies use are pure, harsh chemicals.  When my friends ask me for skin advice I always say the most important thing to keep in mind is not putting chemicals on your skin. Use all natural ingredients.  for blemishes, (as opposed to overall skin problems), try Pevonia Botanica or Medicalia spot treatment.  I swear by this stuff, (both of them).  I put a little bit of it on when I see a pimple coming on and poof, it's gone by the next day.
