PROJECT BRIDAL SWAP! ! ! !

PROJECT BRIDAL SWAP!

The ladies of PW have some amazing shoes, veils, and accesories.  Some of them bought too much for the big day and want to share!  They are looking to gift their new or like-new shoes, veils, and accesories to brides in need who may not otherwise be able to buy or wear them.

To participate, there are a few rules!

If you need a bridal item

  • Post your story here in this thread!  Tell us about your wedding, your fiance, and why you need and or would love an item gifted to you by a fellow PW bride!  Please include your shoe size/dress size as applicable, as well as give us a general idea of your overal style and theme!  Feel free to post photos.
  • Please post your wedding date!
  • Be prepared to cover the cost of shipping
  • If a member has something that may work for you, they will contact you privately via PM
  • If you are gifted an item, please make sure to post photos of the item in action at your fittings and wedding!

If you would like to donate a bridal item

  • Items should be a modern bridal style and in new or like-new condition
  • You would be gifting the item to the member and will not get it back
  • The member will pay shipping
  • You get to read through their stories in this thread and decide if you want to contact one of them!  If a members post really speaks to you, and you have something you think they may love and enjoy, send them a PM and include estimated shipping costs.
  • You may also post your item in this thread, but be prepared for a LOT of PM's from brides who want it

RULES:

  • Please be honest
  • PW is not responsible for lost or damaged goods, or failure to deliver
  • I recommend payment of shipping costs be done via Paypal
  •  If you were gifted something, please consider re-gifting it after your wedding!

I'm new to the site and hoping to figure it out quickly, as the women I have met so far are wonderful! Anyways, I don't have any particular wonderful story about how we met, or the first thing we said, or anything like that. I can just tell you that the minute I laid eyes on him it was like my brain exploded. I couldn't think straight, I had a hard time breathing, it was literally like time stopped. As cliche as it sounds, it's true. My friend asked if I was having a panic attack! lol. My fiancee and I have been through two crazy years together. We've moved around, we've had our son, and we've been through every career change imaginable. Right now he is getting ready to go into the Air Force come Jan. and I am getting ready to become Mrs. Dependent, no longer Daughter Dependent. Life has been crazy, but it's been worth it. I suffer serious depression and anxiety as well as a few non threatening health issues. That wonderful man has stood by my side for all of it. I would have ran from me, but he didn't. He's kept me sane, and healthy, and here today. And we have a wonderful son I don't know what I would do without! So I am asking for these things not for me per say, but for him. I owe him everything I have and can give. All he wanted was for me to have the wedding of my dreams, and me being worried about money have cut it down tremendously. There are a couple things he has shown interest in or said he would like.

Birdcage veil--my colors are white, black and red, but I have hair like the Little Mermaid...I'm not picky I just want him to see it. He finds them, erm. *ahem* sexy.

A bouquet--red flowers with black decor, or feathers or something please! (my color request, his total request. He is terrified we are going to break bank with the cost of real flowers, and the fake ones around here just look so dusty and bad.)

Decorations in any of these colors--red, black, white.

Cake topper--I'm not too picky, just trying to match the Rockabilly theme. He picked out a Mr. & Mrs. champagne colored one from the book at Walmart, and low-and-behold, they can't sell the ones in the book. The book that they have on display. THAT SAYS CHOOSE YOUR DECORATIONS!!! (sorry I'm still upset because he ran to the ATM across town just to get this cake topper that he HAD to have and we couldn't get it lol!)

And I want to do something special for him. Something that screams "this isn't just about ME, it's about US."

I am COMPLETELY okay, if not thrilled with DIY things. If this post so makes you feel inclined as to make 85 paper roses, or whiddle a cake topper from scratch, by all means. I do a lot of crafting, I understand the time, effort and love put into such items! Thank you for reading, and I apologize if this entry doesn't count. I just know when I'm happy, he's happy, and when he's happy, I feel like the world is complete. He is a wonderful man, and I want to show him that on OUR day. Thanks!

Ohhhhhh I love this idea, I just posted about a dress that I wanted to give away for a nominal fee but now having seen this post, I think I would rather gift the dress to someone who needs it.  Check out my posting "Change of mind......lovely dress for grabs" for pics and details of the dress

This isn't the first time I have been married. First time I was 21 & thought I was in love.  At least I was until the papers were signed.  Sounds horrible I know however as soon as our marriage certificate was signed he became mentally & physically abusive. Fast-forward nine years to my next marriage.  We had been together 7 years.  Any time I brought up getting married I got told no, he wasn't going to get married.  It wasn't until we went for full custody of his son & the lawyer told us that he would have a better chance if he were married.  As we were walking out he says "Well I guess we are getting married".  I loved him & his son so much that I went along w/ it. Our small problems quickly turned into large problems & I left several months later after we said our I do's.

Early in 2011 I had broken up w/ my then boyfriend of five years.  We grew apart & were at different places in our lives.  I was in school full time & working full time.  A friend of mine suggested I check out a social networking site (not Facebook) as a way to meet people.  On a Friday night after a long day of work & night of homework I went online to waste some time.  I went to the site that was suggested to me & figured, what the hell.  While looking through profiles I received a message from this guy telling me about himself.  He was in school, ex marine & so forth.  He liked what my profile had to say & wanted to know if I would go to dinner some time w/ him.  Knowing my schedule was pretty packed I nicely declined.  A few moments later he instant messaged me & we began talking. What I thought was going to be a quick conversation turned into us chatting all night long!  We made plans to meet up for dinner & have been pretty much inseparable ever since.  I wasn't going to give him a chance because of my schedule along w/ the fact that he was younger & shorter than I was.  I am so glad I changed my mind & agreed to chat w/ him that evening. He has become my best friend as well as the love of my life.  Even on our not so great days, I love him to death & couldn't imagine him not in my life!

We live in a small rural area on the middle peninsula of Virginia.  Our town is so small we don't even have a stoplight.  Our main attraction is a 7-11!!  There are no jobs in our area.  He graduated college in September & has not been able to find work related to his degree.  He took a job welding in a city an hour & a half from our home just to try to pay bills .  After a month of employment,  on my birthday no less he was laid off. Happy Birthday to Me!  I was laid off in 2009 while out on medical leave.  I finally found a very low paying job that I had when we met but I was laid off from that two weeks after we started dating, so I haven't worked since June of 2011.

I've been able to scrape some money together by selling some of my stuff, which is how I was able to buy a wedding dress used from another bride.  I just can't eat between now & our wedding or chances are I won't fit in the dress (her measurements were way off!!!)  I can't afford another dress.  I thought planning our wedding would be fun but we have had so many bumps in the road that it has become anything but fun.  We have found our venue luckily but I am still working on everything else.  I've never had my dream wedding, which is why I really want to do this "right" this time.

My engagement ring isn't a real diamond because we can't afford it.  I've opted to do donuts instead of cake because it's cheaper.  We have taken our guest list of approx. 160 down to 80 (he has a HUGE family).  I spend a lot of time looking at wedding stuff trying to plan, so that if & when the time comes I know what I want, where to get it, who has the best price etc.  The problem w/ that is that any time I show anything to anyone I get a lot of criticism that I shouldn't be spending money, how am I spending money, where am I getting the money.  Uh hello folks I'm not buying anything!!!  All this has done is added a crap load of stress on top of the stress I am dealing w/ from trying to figure out how to keep a roof over our heads & the lights on as well as the stress from dealing w/ a crappy semester in school.

We are getting married June 22, 2013.

Our venue is an old antebellum mansion in Virginia.  All of the ceremony & reception must take place outside which means I have to rent a tent, tables, chairs etc.

Linens:  I am going to be doing banquet table seating so any white linens would be greatly appreciated.  I also am going to need napkins.  I am going to need navy chair sashes - I'm happy w/ organza.  I also need to find burlap table runners.

Our theme if you want to call it that is kind of rustic, kind of garden, kind of whimsy.

Our colors are Navy, Purple, and Magenta & Fuchsia.

Decorations:  I would like white birch vases but knowing I can't afford them I am going to cut down some regular trees from the woods let it dry & make them myself.  I have this thing for Chinese lanterns - don't know why but I just LOVE them.  So any white or purple lanterns I don't care what size would be awesome.  Also I need to find cheap white string Christmas lights to light the tent w/.

I'd like to do some cute wood signs & bunting.  Anything anyone has diy'ed I'd love.  I am a total diy person when I have the money.

I don't have a card box, or a guest book (I'm looking for a unique way to do the "guestbook").

Attire:  As I said I have my dress.  It's Maggie Sottero Jenna.  If I gain a pound it's not going to fit so I am keeping my fingers crossed.  I purchased it from another bride but the measurements she gave me could not have been right.  They were my measurements & honestly it's pushing it.  I don't have shoes.  I have fallen in love w/ two styles Nina Fern & J. Renee Rosina.  I wear a size 10.  I have a hair fascinator that was purchased by a friend (who didn't check w/ me before she purchased it) & it's just not me.  So I'd like a crystal comb.  I'd love a cathedral veil.  I don't have any jewelry & am looking for a crystal/rhinestone statement necklace & small earrings.  I need a fit & flare or a mermaid slip for under the dress as well.

We've put off our engagement pictures (found & booked our photog when he was working) so the pictures are free however I literally have no clothes to wear.  I have lost 65 pounds in the last year & literally all of my clothes are too big but I'm wearing them because I can't afford anything else.

Invitations:  A friend is designing them for me.  But I am going to have to come up w/ all of the cardstock & what not to put them together myself.  I'd like them to be purple & the invitation on white cardstock w/ a backer of silver.  They are going to be pocket folds.

If there is something you might want to gift but I haven't mentioned it, it's probably because I haven't thought about it yet so please let me know.  If you have anything at all that might possibly work & feel I may be the right giftee then please let me know!

I couldn't fit this in my post, but I wanted to make sure that I added this.

I appreciate your acts of kindness & thoughtfulness more than you realize.  Weddings are ridiculously expensive & it simply isn't fair.  There are many of us that, thanks to the economy just can't afford thousands of dollars to spend on a wedding.  But it doesn't mean we shouldn't have a beautiful wedding.

Hi Bella23071 I wantedto let you know that I am doing my entire wedding myself just like I did 20 years ago.

Are you at all crafty? I have never had any name brand clothes for my first wedding nor for my vow renewal and I think you could find some great options at TJMAXX or a Marshalls

I don't have any of the items you need nor like, but I am making all of my things. I am watching lots of videos and taking my time.

As for the cake have you thought about making cupcakes? You can make them for $4.50 for 24 including the icing and the edible candy flowers from the wedding isle of Michaels or other store that sells cake decorating supplies. You could even buy these sweet little edible butterflies and things at amazon for like $10

I know you want these given to you and I wish I could help more.

If you know a Southern NH bride who has a very tight budget and would like a photographer or two please let me know. My friend is really trying to grow her portfolio. I would also be there to help her with lighting and getting the extra shots where you could really use a second photographer. It would require a testamonial at the end of the event. They will have to pay to have the film printed, but not for the time.

Welcome to PW Bella.  I am not sure if I have anything that would work for you, but I can check after this week.  I would also suggest you check out Dollar Tree, as they are awesome and have great DIY ideas.  We are glad to have you as a part of our community.  You might also want to check out the Groups section.  There are groups for DIY Brides, Brides planning weddings under 5K and I believe there is a group that is for Brides for planning a wedding under 1K.  : )

Well, here I am, after several days of contemplating if I post on this wonderful board or not...obviously, I decided it was the better option to go ahead and post.

So, here is my story...

My FI and I have been together for 3 years. I couldn't have begged for anyone better.  He's the whole package, including his spectacular parents and siblings. We got engaged last March and couldn't settle on a wedding date for the longest time.  Finally, in October, we decided on April 13, 2013. I have acquired the majority of our decor, it will be a small wedding with our closest friends and our families. We have both been married before so the need for a huge shindig isn't there this time.

What IS there for me, is the desire to wear my dream dress.  My first wedding, I was young and felt pressured to wear a dress that was not my style simply because my ex husbands mother loved the dress. This time, I want to be able to look back at my wedding photos and for the rest of my life, feel like it was exactly what I wanted.   I want to be able to show my grandchildren (several years from now!) and see the smiles on their faces because their granny and grandpa looked so lovely and so in love on their wedding day.

The first dress I fell in love with was Maggie Sottero's Rhianna Royale.  I love that it's different. I'm not that much of a traditional girl. The second I absolutely loved was Monique Lhuillier's Candy. Either in any color but white, and I am a street size 8 so I would assume a 12 or 14 dress size.  I realize these are not the most bargain priced gowns which is where my problem lies. On November 4th, I lost my sweet Daddy. He had been ill for quite some time and he just became a victim of his body. Paying for his funeral was completely unexpected and I refuse to take money out of college funds my FI and I have started for our daughters.

As I said, I realize the gowns listed above are by no means cheap so I would greatly appreciate one of those or anything relatively similar.  I would gladly clean and regift it to another bride or even return it to the original owner.

My mom passed 11 years ago at quite a young age with breast cancer that metastasized to her brain and lungs so I won't have either parent at my wedding.  It would be such an amazing feeling to know they are looking down on their "baby girl" in a beautiful gown on the happiest day of her life.

Thank you to the brides that came up with this idea, you have changed SO MANY lives.

I have looked online and it seems the only brides selling theirs are the ones that are a size 2 or 4! I couldn't squish myself enough to even think about that size!

i am still asking if there are any kind hearted brides out there who has one of these gowns in this style, invory, size -16-18-20 corset back.  I stand 5.7 without shoes, who might help another bride out.  I am looking for dress and some really nice fancy shoes, size 8, i normally take 7 but i just want to make sure they will fit.  in red, blue, or orange. 2 inch is the most, but, i can go flat or 1 to 1.5 inches in heels.  i thank you from the bottom of my heart.  god bless to you brides.

I don't have a dress, but I did find this site that sells gently used bridesmaid dresses.  You might want to check it out.  I do know that a few of our brides here have actually worn bridesmaid dresses for their wedding and you would have never known it was a BM dress, unless they told us.
