Proper way to write place cards

I'm (reluctantly) doing place cards.  I decided to do "Mr. & Mrs. Joe Smith"...mainly so there's less to print.  However, how do I handle it if there's a child(ren)?  Do I make a separate card for the child(ren)?  I can't do "The Smith Family" because there will be several families w/ the same last name.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith and family?  We had a few families there but the "children" were adults so they got their own card.  But if the family members are under age children, I would put "and Family" after the Mr. and Mrs....

yeah, if you have different meal choices then i think each person would need separate cards, including Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith.  But we didn't give guests an option...had dual entrees on one plate...so it worked.

Wellll - we do have different options.  I'm trying to avoid printing individual cards at all costs.  The coordinator at our reception site said we can do couples on cards, so I'm going with it!

are you talking about escort cards or place cards - for escort cards I think you can put them as "The So and So Family" but for pace cards I think each person really needs one.

Escort cards are cards that your guests would get during the cocktail hour before they sat down that would tell them what table to sit at. Place cards would be at the actual table at each place setting telling the person where to sit at the table.
