PSA: Losing Weight and Your Dress

If you have more than 40 pounds to lose and are going to extra mile to lose weight before you wedding, warning -- do not buy your dress right away.

I had (well have -- it's winding down now) a long engagement and I got a corset back thinking that if I had to take it in I would still be fine.  Yeah no.

Did you know that most dresses can only be taken in two sizes?  Well I didn't and so I thought I would pass it on.

Good news is I thought I loved my dress before but I got a new one and discovered my first dress was only puppy love :)

What?! sad sad day. I had to order my dress early because i would be overseas until about a month before the wedding so i wouldnt have enough time to get a dress. i lost 20lbs so far and hoping to lose more. I contacted the owner of where i got my dress because i worried about it and she said it shoujldn't be an issue. cross fingers because i wno't have enough time to get another dress!

Thanks so much for the warning. I am sorry that this happened to you but I am pleased to know that you found one that you like better :)

Well I am in luck because I was 30lbs down when I got my dress and by the grace of GOD will be down another ten before my big day!

I should have mentioned a bridal gown size is about 15-20 pounds.  So more than 2 sizes would be more than 30-40 pounds.

In the same lines, I ordered a size smaller than I currently am and I am now praying that I can lose it before my wedding in November!

Aklovesmc, you can do it. Just change your diet and exercise and you will be where you want to be. I wish they told brides this before hand. I ordered up one size because of my but is big so they have to take my dress in. Not to mention I plan to lose another ten pounds but that is not more than two dress sizes so I should be fine.

Oh Aparker1269, I know this about dress sizes. What I should have said is I made sure I lost 30lbs before I got my dress so the dress I have now fits me quite well but once I lose ten more pounds it will be looser.

At this point I don't have to worry about my dress fitting me. Instead I have to worry about the dress fittings. Like trying to change my dress to a sweetheart neck line, shortening the length of my dress. A short gal like myself doesn't want to end up walking on her dress LOL!
