Purchase or rent linens?

I met with the event coordinator from the hotel yesterday at the linen rental company.  The hotel has only white table cloths so she suggested that we opt for an overlay on the round tables and a patterned tablecloth on the bistro tables that will surround the dance floor, have a couple in the lobby outside of the ballroom and a few that will be outside.  We haven't received the invoice yet but my future SIL/MOH seems to think it will be cheaper to purchase the overlays and table cloths than it will to rent them.

If you purchased - where did you purchase from? Would you do it again?  If you rented - why did you opt to rent rather than purchase?

I'm on the fence about it because part of me just believes that renting and not having to worry about getting items to the reception space myself will be worth the price but I'm interested to hear your feedback.  So shoot . . .

Well, I am buying, but I am also only buying them from Wal-Mart and I will then use them again and again.

If you DO NOT plan on another big party followed by a baby with a baby shower followed by a christening shortly after that don't bother buying

I am always hosting parties for one reason or another. I just have not needed this many in a while. I am also getting ready for my 18 y/o son to go off into the military so we will be having a party for him and my daughter's 18th is also this summer. i am getting neutral table clothes in lace. They work for everything!

Originally I purchased plain satin ivory linens for the reception tables only, my caterer provided the other linens and it was cheaper to purchase and you have the option to resale them. I've since purchased the rosette overlays (see table mockup thread) for all the reception tables which ended up being very close to the rental price, but on the bright side I own them. Get the quote then check eBay for deals. It's a good idea to only purchase one first, just to make sure you like them. Good luck.

Shondra, your table cloth is gorgeous!

IDo - I could always resell the linens - I just don't know if I want to do that.

I am purchasing my linens! I've been getting them from linentablecloth.com or cvlinens.com.

I check them often for sales and discontinued items so I get the best deals. I bought our cocktail table linens (purple satin) when they were 35% off with free shipping at linentablecloth.

And our reception table overlays (90x90 square purple satin) were on sale at cvlinen for $5 a piece.

Still have to buy white poly rounds, but I'm waiting for the right sale.

Definitely plan to sell them after the wedding. Make some of the money back. =)

Overlays are very affordable. I used e-bay and linentablecloth.com. Table cloths for me are the same price to rent as it is to buy so im going to purchase them from either site. I called some rental places that rented linen for almost $25 per piece. Crazy.

Linentablecloth has good deals but 80% of the stuff on clearence/discount is never available. I did get my 6 plum overlays for $20 free shipping came in line 2 days.

And i ordered the green ones off of ebay (linentable didnt have the green i needed) they were 4 for about $25?? But i ordered larger ones.

I too purchased my linen. I purchased satin ivory tablecloths from e-bay with free shipping. Just for the table linen alone, this is not including the chair covers, to rent was almost 600.00. I saved 400.00 by purchasing from e-bay and I plan on using them for future events. Even if you don't use them again, you can always sell them.

I used the tablecloths from our venue, but purchased table runners and we still have them because I can use them again for other events that we have and dinner parties, etc.  I went with linentablecloth and could not have been happier with their product and service.

Yes, selling would be a great way to handle the costs.

I am using table runners as well and I got them on clearance. Bed Bath Beyond often has great clearance sales on all of these things.

You can also check out our Classifieds section, as many of our brides do sell their items after their weddings.

I purchased Ivory table cloths and then we will use a colored runner because we have rectangle tables. It's cheaper or cost the same as renting and as others have said you can reuse them or sell them.
