purple and green OR gold???

Hi Ladies - your inspiration boards have been great. My wedding is in September 2010 and I keep going back and forth about the color scheme. I can't decide between

a) purple, gold & ivory/white

b) purple, green & ivory/white

I thought the purple and green can look too festive (like Mardi Gras or birthday party!) - but I feel confident about the purple and gold looking elegant and sophisticated. Our wedding is in a ballroom and depending on the cost, I plan to have pipe and drape around the room with purple uplighting. The centerpieces are tall and low and the primary flower is a purple orchid. Oh- I must mention my fiance insists on him & his groomsmen to wear a GRAY tux!! If we go with purple, I was thinking of violet BM dresses from Alfred Angelo (strapless) -- but they are kind of bright purple/violet and if we went with purple/gold .. I feel safe using gold for the BM dresses. soo many things depend on the color scheme and i need your help! Thanks

- Any inspiration pictures of purple and green weddings?

- Any inspiration picture of purple and gold weddings?

I'm going for a modern and elegant look. Thanks, ladies!

I need to decide soon, because I've already placed the deposit on our florist and I don't want him to charge me more for changing my mind and keep meeting with him.

i think that a grey modern tux would look very nice with purple gold and ivory- it would be better suited for daytime though.

How about using both? My main colors are purple, gold, and nacy blue, with hints of ivory, brown, and lime green!

Pghbride2010, you and I share a dilemma!

My planner/florist and FI thinks that we need to add green to our color scheme. I am still not sure if I want to add add green yet. I initially thought of Mardi Gras too but I think with the right shade of green and in moderation, it could work well. Actually, I have been attracted to hues of pink and think it would also compliment the purple very well (I have lots of pics of that combo on my page, if you want to see). Like you, I am using lots of orchids, many of which come in pink or green (cymbidiums).

In terms of using gold, there is no doubt that purple and gold spells royalty. However, we have been hesitant to use gold since my FI also wants to wear grey. The grey and gold may clash. I think silver accents will better tie the purple and grey together. Not to mention that using silver as opposed to gold just seems fresher and more contemporary, IMO. If you really love the gold accent, maybe you can convince your FI to go with navy suits instead!

Here is a purple and green inspiration board (I may have found both images on PW a while back):

This couple used purple accent and the men wore grey. It looked very modern and fresh.

thanks, regal1981 - i <3 your pics. I borrowed a few for my inspiration! thanks!

I agree with everything that you said ... green in moderations, most of it will be in the flowers and i think i might add a few green votives or candle holders. Keep me posted!

But you have to think, your not going to have big blotched of color all together. like my linens are white, w/ plum runners and menus tucked into my lavender napkins. For the pink my orchids reflect that

I think you can use whatever colors you want. its all about how you put them together. Good luck, let us know what you decide
