I thin this is a great idea, especially if you need to just get away for a 2 day reprieve from planning!

I don't like this idea.  To me it spoils the whole idea of the "honeymoon".

Yeah Anabellstar, I don't like this idea either. Besides the fact that it spoils the honeymoon, you can use that money to spend on the real honeymoon. There is nothing like the excitment of planning the honeymoon and then going to the adventure of it.

We're doing a mini-moon after the wedding; we're afraid that FH won't be able to get the time off for the contractor he works for, so we're doing a weekend getaway the weekend after the wedding so that we can still have some fun "away-time."  We're hoping that next summer we will be able to take a week-long honeymoon as originally planned.

I think that depending on the way you go about it, it's perfect for some brides.  Not everyone will have the opportunity to take a huge long honeymoon after the wedding...sometimes a 2-4 reprieve, even in the state you live in, is a huge boost.

Looks like spam robot responses bumped this post...

Anyway, we are having a week long mini-moon because FI does not want to fly after the wedding for various reasons... And it will be November so our trip to Italy would be better put off until next spring or fall.

We live in California and there are so many options. Currently undecided between Monte Rio, Big Sur, or Trinidad.

We did a very short minimoon, and stayed local. After the wedding, DH and I couldn't swing a great honeymoon. Not to mention, I was starting a new job the following week and he was busy with work and school as well. We didn't spend much, and it gave us the chance to save up for a much better HM that we would have had if we'd left right after the wedding.

Additionally, I'm surprised at the long-time married couples that say they wish they'd have waited to take their honeymoon. Even my boss said he couldn't enjoy the first couple days on whatever island resort they went to because they were still stressed out from the wedding. The mini-moon is a great option in these situations.

We are doing a Mini Moon after our wedding.  We are getting married 9/1/12 (which is Labor Day Weekend) spending the sunday after with our guests and then heading to California on the monday until Wednesday (We're from Seattle so it's a quick flight).. .This gives us a little break without taking too much time off from work & costing lots of $$ but more importantly gives us something to look forward to next year!  We will be going to Italy the following September for our real honeymoon.  So many of my friends after a yr of planning their wedding when they returned from their honeymoon were sad or depressed that they no longer had something to loook forward to or plan.
