FI and I went and I am SO glad we did!! It takes a loooong time to really know someone, and the dynamics really change sometimes once you live together. People are raised so differently, many people grow up exposed to unhealthy relationships and marriages which ultimately affects how they function in theirs. Couples have different views on communication, finances, children, gender roles etc; etc;.....I was so grateful that FI was open minded about the whole process. We will continue to go occassionally before the big day but I can honestly say that our relationship has evolved so much because of it!! GREAT POST!!!!!! Pre-marital counseling is so overlooked  (folks just really hate talking about it) but it's a vital investment towards your marriage :-)

It was very helpful for FI and I do the classes.  There are certain things we haven't been through together yet (like loss of a loved one) that we discussed.  There are so many things you can't predict but talking about things and being open helps a lot.

This is a great article...I kinda wish that FI and I did some sort of counseling, because from what I've heard, it just brings you closer together...

Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to find a reputable premarital counselor?

FI and I did premartial counseling, and I am so glad we did. Of course our counseling was with my father who is my pastor and who is performing our ceremony. He requires any couple that want him to officate to have counseling, which I completely respect.

A lot of things that we would have never thought about discussing came up, and we were able to discuss things and communicate much better after

I'm going to def look into this. In my state of Texas, we do get a fee waived for the marriage licencse. It's kinda tricky looking for this kind of service, because we're not very religous, or go to any church in particular. So, I think I might find one at a community center & for free! Why not? I'm excited...
