This is exactly what I am trying to convince my fiance with, let's be practical with our guests list since we are paying for our wedding.  There is no need to invite people whom you have not seen in more than 3 yrs.  All I want to do is marry him; I don't need tons of guests to validate our special event.

@irene: I know what you mean! FI thinks that just because we aren't the ones paying for our guests' trips, that it isn't expensive anyways. Sheesh!

That was a good article. Definitely informative--those were all tips I had used when I created my guest list months ago.

This was a good article at just the right time. I have 300 invitations to print and a 140 compacity. A lot of his side will probably be an invite for the sake of being nice which is fine with me. Thinking we might need a tent to deal with extra guests and dancing. If that many RSVP...

Great Ideas. Don't forget parking for your venue. Around here, there's alot of places downtown that people rent for their receptions, the bad thing is parking. The only parking is ramps, 3 total but your guests will have to walk blocks to get there. Handicapped accessibly? Can gm and gp walk 6 blocks? This was one MAJOR thing we had to decide on when booking ours.

perfect timing! My daughter and I went round and round about this very thing yesterday. I told her 150 hoping for 100 attendees, their list is now at 325, with about 266 for sure attendees. I tried to explain not only will the venue not hold that many, the budget won't either. For some reason her and her FI seem to think the only additional costs will be extra chairs, which there is no room for. In addition, invitation costs, postage, food, tables, linens, and the list goes on.

They are having an after party for the people that did not make the wedding list.I suggested they move co-workers to after party. My daughter and her FI are worried about hurting people's feelings, me personally I am more worried about my pocket book that will not stretch to accommodate and additional 90 or so guests.
