I think you did a great job. However, I am working on our budget right now. What did you do about paying the officiant? Was there a cost for your venue? Did you get gifts for the bridal part? What abou grooms attire?  Also, did you do favors? Guestbook? What about music for ceremony and reception? It seems to me that we thought we could do the wedding for around $8000 but we are at $10,000 and that's being very careful. Did you just not spend on those things?

We're keeping our costs down by choosing a venue that let's us bring our own caterer, and also offers tables and chairs included in the rental fee.

Instead of spending money on full blown invitations (from design to printing and mailing), we are requesting RSVPs via email. For more formal invites, we're printing 100 full color (front/back) postcards for only $50.

Additionally, we are fortunate to have many talented friends, so we'll be asking our various friends to:

  • officiate (with a stipend)

  • cater the wedding (ingredients and labor provided at cost, not marked up)

  • perform acoustically - bluegrass soloist for reception, classical musicians for ceremony (with a stipend)

  • photograph for 4 hours (at a discount) - requires a well prepared shotlist

  • make the cake - talented tennis teammate has a baking side business

This article is missing a LOT! No music? No offcient? We are saving an absolute fortune by getting married at FI's bosses estate for FREE!

I have friends, that are getting married at her Grandpas house...

Thank you for posting this. Im in the same price budget with (about) 100 guests. My biggest issue will be the flowers. Alot of people have suggested Sams Club(same flowers, quality) as a high end florist at half the costs.

Hmm...  The first suggestion here was to hire a wedding planner, yet the ultimate budget does not include anything for the planner?  And the expense of hiring a planner is justified by the wholesale deals a planner can get you, yet all of the items discussed seem to be deals that one could get without a planner...

As others have noted, the budget is missing several items that most people would want to have.  (It doesn't even appear to include rings.)  Even so, it's unclear whether the budget is actually below $10,000 by the time you add in alterations for the dress, the gratuity for the reception, and the taxes and fees for the honeymoon.

I'm hopeing ours will be around the same price, We have cut the guest list, found a restarant meal at lunch instead of dinner. Then having cake and punch, for more guests later in a small party room in our Apartment complex.  I'll make the cakes myself. our biggest expense will be clothing.

Not only does this not include rings, the officiant, prints, gratuities, alterations, the wedding planner. It also doesnt include even the grooms attire, plane tickets for you honeymoon (unless you can drive to the caribbean and i missed the memo, since punta cana is in the dominican republic, not mexico) or gifts for your wedding party!!

We are planning a little backyard wedding with 150 guests and the only way we could get it close to our budget of $8000 (without cutting our guest list) was to do flowers and food ourselves. Even that is proving to be a challenge. Sadly all those little parts left off of the budget above add up really quick. I got a lot of really do ideas from this post though so keep them coming !!

Although this article does leave out a lot of other expenses, I do like it. Unlike other articles on this website that tell you "how to save money" or "what to do when...", this article actually spelled out numbers and offered specific suggestions!

I am a 21 year old college student planning a wedding. My budget was set to 10K but right now my budget is less than 6K. The main thing is to shop around alot and ask friends or family around the area you are getting married how they cut costs. I am having a wedding in a town I just moved to with my fiancee and i don't know any of the good floral shops or anything everything was new to me. The biggest thing for me was finding somewhere cheap enough to hold all of our family. A great place is a hotel banquet center. They are almost always gorgeous and in our case they do all the set up and clean up for us and tax and grautity was all included in the pricing so we saved ALOT. Also i have asked my closest friends and family the help look out for cute ideas. Another way i am saving a ton of money is that i am making all of my decorations and buying the flowers for decoration wholesale. I really hope some of my ways of saving money can help you guys out I know i cut my budget from 20K to 6K by just shopping around.

Looks like it will be a little over 10k considering there is no venue fee included unless it's at a house or also community places can help save money. I tried t budget my wedding to 10k but it was really hard! however we are not going too much above budget either. We are only having 100 guests (close friends & family) so that there helps save money. We were so lucky to find a beautiful venue by that beach that offers 2 entrees with 2 sides, unlimited wine, beer, champagne, soft drinks and cofee plus a beautiful cake and centerpieces!!! the venue is a total dream! the deal is around $10,500 and we have decided to add $5k extra for all the other costs. We are having an advanced photography student to our wedding shoot, this will save A LOT of money! you can get it for an incredible price since you are helping the student build their portfolio as well. We are still searching for the videographer but might end up getting an advanced student as well. I also, found a gorgeous dress from $1,000 to $499.00!! and don't have to do too many alterations! The DJ is from a referred list from the venue and gave us an amazing deal because they do many weddings there, and we are having the bridesmaids and groom's man pitch in $50.00 dls each instead of them giving us a present so DJ ends up being for free :) we are also getting married at church and that is around $400.00. Make sure to put money aside for any miscellanious costs! My wedding isn't until April 2012 but I have wasted no time lol! My fiance and I visited almost every venue in Orange County and we are happy to find one we both really like and also gives more for our buck..it is possible! you just really have to do your homework!! There are still other little things we need to plan such as favors, make up, hair and stuff but getting advanced students is really a good tip to get an amazing job done for less! GOOD LUCK LADIES!!!

My budget for the wedding is 10k and right now it definitely is looking doable as of right now. We're not doing a honeymoon right after the wedding, so that's not included. Our biggest expense will be the food and the rings actually, and I don't want to spend more than $1,500 on each. So for me 10 thousand is a great budget if you do your shopping around and a lot of DIY projects.
