Mine pretty much came down to price pp.   Sacrificed a little on the menu , but money is a huge issue for us

Oh I was totally confused.  It said it was an article and then there was no substance to it!  Is that the idea behind a PW guide article?  To get others talking?

I would definitely agree that price and the size of our guest list played a big role in our venue choice. =)

Aside from being a good value... for me, a place that adds a bunch of little fees after their price PP or their set price is a real turn off. "Its $40 per person... not including cake cutting fee, corkage fee, cleanup fee, candle fee, linens, chairs, lifeguard fee (<--- my bro's venue!). Little stuff like that make me feel like they're false advertising their low rates.

I also agree that the place needs to feel "right" when you're there.

All of these were important for me... But one other thing that was important for me?  How it would look in pictures.  If there was enough "photo op" places on the premises.  When I saw the reception room I fell in love and figured it would be out of our price range, but it was actually the best deal I found!

Abatty- I totally agree!  I hate when a place quotes one price, but in actuality, it's higher than other places because of all the add-ons!

Our venue is for our ceremony and reception.. so we just said "yup, it's perfect and pretty, and just what I envision. Let's book it"... then we looked at the fine print ;).  But they don't do anything there, excpet be your DOC kind of.. We had to hire outside vendors, etc.. so there's no "hidden" fees or anything.  You can upgrade your plates, etc if you want, and that costs a little bit, but not terrible.

We went with an outdoor courtyard right on the water...only $350.  A real steal, but we have to bring in everything...but I am constantly on the search for deals and steals! Just got the hookup for free tables/no renting.  That will save us like $300...and our caterer supplies all basic linens, glass, flat and dinner ware as well as the 3 meat buffet for a $30 tag...no cake cut fee...good food too!
