QUESTION FOR PLUS SIZE BRIDES****

okay, so im 5 months away from my weddding and still dont have a dress. (I know, im REALLY late, and VERY stressed about it)  Im having a hard time finding a bridal store in/near Los Angeles that carries bigger sizes than a sample 10.

How did you girls decide on a dress? did you order without trying one on?

Also... please post a pic for inspiration!!!

I had a replica dress made.  I also almost bought a dress at David's Bridal.

Did you go to Unique Vintage in Burbank?  http://www.unique-vintage.com/

Or try Jinny's Bridal in Huntington Beach.  They have a bunch of samples in a bunch of sizes and their prices are great. http://www.jinnysbridal.com/

I did go to Unique Vintage.. I work a few blocks away. they have sample sizes around 8-10. Im closer to a 16/18 in dresses, so I cant even fit in one to get a feel for what it will look like on.

Ill look at Jinnys bridal. Thank you :)

Hey there :)

I actually purchased my 2nd wedding dress (reception dress) four months before my wedding from Alfred Angelo.  I paid extra for a rush fee because I thought it would be a while before my dress got in, but it was in in less than one month.  The Alfred Angelo store I went to had dresses in sample size 16, so you may want to go there if there's one near you.  I'm not sure what area of L.A. you're in, so I've copied and pasted the different locations in the L.A. area.  I bought my dress at an actual Alfred Angelo retail store, not a bridal store that carries Alfred Angelo - I don't know if that would make a difference in shipping time.  Anyhow, here's the website:  http://www.alfredangelo.com/company/homepage.aspx

Good luck!

Another place is Group USA.  They have a store at Ontario Mills in Ontario.  They have some gorgeous dresses.  I looked at some dresses there before my wedding.  I know they carry plus sizes.

I ended up trying on 2 dresses that were 2 sizes too small. So needless to say I didn't get a real good feel on what they would look like on me because they were... umm... distorted, Lol. So I guess you can say I purchased my dress on a whim. I am really no help with where to go because I had that same problem. Here is a pic of me in my dress:I ended up trying photo 3007896-1

I knew when I went dress shopping it would be dificult since most samples were way to small. My consultant where I purchased my dress never made a big deal about it, and just offered to hold the dress up infront of me. Can you see her hands?? LOL This was enough for me to decide it was the one! HTH!

I got mine from David's Bridal.  I wonder if different David's have different selections?  Mine had many more then the 5-7 dresses I tried on that were available for try on in the store I went to.  I purchased a size 18 or 20 I can't remember.  lol

All the samples I tried were way to small but I was able to get a good idea of what they would look like. The consultant and the store should be able to help you with that, they know how the designs work and measure properly to ensure your dress comes in the right size. Its amazing how fabric and cut can flatter ANY body type. I wanted to take advantage of the one time I could wear a big puffy figure hiding gown and ended up embracing the curves lol!!! I love my gown even mire than when I saw it in the model.
Good luck hon. You WILL find your dream gown and feel like a super Model!!! Then post pics on here and feel like a billion dollars as the comments and adoration comes rolling in lol PW is the ULTIMATE confidence booster :)

I tried on a sample with lots of fabric pinned to the back so could see the effect. For me I wanted to feel comfortable and as I am top heavy I knew I didn't want a strapless dress and feel best in v necked tops etc so choose a dress with that neckline. I also choose my dress late so you are not alone! I am selling mine if you are interested? H x

I'm a 14/16, and both David'd Bridal and Alfred Angelo had a bit of everything -

I had to go w Alfred Angelo b/c of the length - I am 6'3", and David's no way/no how would accomodate  the length -

Alfred Angelo said no probs - tell them what I wanted and they would do it; the only thing that was limiting was the budget that I said I wanted to stay in

and actually, both times I went to Alfred Angelo, most of the dresses they pulled (I tried on 4 to 5 each time) right off of the racks were my size or larger -

maybe it's cause I'm in Texas, and everything is bigger in Texas?

My consultant at David's Bridal did the same thing with my dress like milkgals did, I was pinned up every kind of way imaginable.  I am going this sunday to try it on in my size, finally!

But here she is "on me" in a 14
