RE Appointment Booked!!!

Well I booked my first RE appointment yesterday for July 25th which seemed like forever, but I just got a call this morning that they had a cancellation and they can now see me on June 9th!!

I feel such relief to have a plan with a specialist now and I think it will be great timing since I am set to induce my period on next Monday with Provera.

I have been keeping a TTC Journal since we started which details all my appointments, meds, blood results etc that I will bring to the RE in case he needs it....Is there anything else I should bring? How does the first appointment go?

The scheduling nurse told me that we will have a consultation (My husband and I had to finish a HUGE packet of medical history last night!) and a vaginal ultrasound and it didn't matter what cycle day I was on.

Any advice that you can give me would be appreciated!

I don't have any advise for you but wanted to tell you how excited for you I am... and that our appts are on the same day :) Except you are further along than me - I'm just with a OBGYN.

And I'm on Provera now so I will have one more cycle to show her my charts... and lack of ovulation.

I'm hoping we both get the answers we are looking for.

I have no idea what you should expect, but it sounds like you are on the right track bringing your charts, etc.  Wishing you LOTS of luck, my dear!! :)  Can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Yay!!  That's awesome that they have a sooner opening! :)  I know how you're feeling...that relief that finally you feel like you're moving forward instead of running in place. :)

I can only speak from personal experience on a first RE visit.  My RE's office sent me a packet of forms to fill out and send back to them prior to our first appointment.  They were filled with tons of questions about my and DH's medical background, our families' backgrounds, our TTC efforts, interventions that we've already tried, etc.  The RE reviewed those before we even met with him so that he was briefed on our situation.  We didn't need to bring anything with us...I brought copies of my charts but he never even seemed to care that I was charting.  Also, I had to sign medical releases for them to get my records from my Ob/Gyn ahead of time.

At the appointment, we met with the RE for a good while and he discussed the aspects of TTC (which I already was well versed in - but it was good for DH), asked us some questions about my cycles, our efforts, etc, and then talked about what our options were.  After that, I had an internal u/s so he could look at my uterus and ovaries first hand.  After that, we met with him again in his office to confirm what we wanted to do next.  Then we met with my assigned nurse to go over the next steps, bloodwork that needed to be done, etc.  After that, we met with the billing department person to discuss what our insurance covered, what OOP costs we would have, etc.

I had already done the HSG and some bloodwork and DH had already done a SA so the RE didn't feel he needed to re-do those.  But we had to do a bunch more blood work to rule out STD's (standard procedure) and more hormone tests on me (CD3 testing that my Ob/Gyn didn't feel she needed to do).

Honestly, they know you're lost when you show up there so they'll take the lead on the appointment.  Just be sure to come with any questions you might have for the doctor...like what treatment he thinks is best, how long he tries that before moving on to something else, success rates of certain procedures, etc.  And make sure you like the "vibe" of the doctor and the office becuase you'll be there a lot! :)  I have only been once so far (the initial consult) but if this natural cycle doesn't work, starting in two weeks I'll be there pretty frequently since with injectible IUI's, they monitor you really closely...like every other day or so.  So if I didn't like the personality of the doctor or the staff, it would be an issue!! :)

As always thanks so much Michelle - I went to the office today to drop off my paper work and pick up a new SA cup for DH (They asked for another one since they measure different things than the original clinic).  I got a good feel for the office and the scheduling nurses are very nice.  I know this sounds strange but it felt so much better being in there than surrounded by all of those pregnant women at the OBGYN office (no offense of course).

I am hoping we both hit it off with the Doctor on the 9th - I will report back!

So glad you got that earlier appt! I am a little late here but just wanted to pipe in.
My first RE appt was for both me and DH together.
There was no exams or tests it was basically reviewing our medical history and ttc details.
The RE scheduled an hsg and progesterone test for me for the following week and an SA for DH.
I totally agree with the "feel" of the fertility office. There is an Ob/Gyn side of the business but they are in a different area. Seeing the many many pregnant ladies at my previous Gyn office was killing me... Crap, just seeing them at the grocery store gets me worked up much less seeing an entire waiting room of them... ;)
Can't wait to hear the details of your appt. Just a few short weeks to go! :)
