I'd go with silk too. It might stay in your hair better since they usually have a comb attached. Your wedding is creeping up!!

That is really tricky. I would do a silk flower just to be safe. There are lots of things that could make the flower wilt, too much handling, sun, heat, breed, time it was cut, I would be scared to take the chance of having the flower wilt.

I love the look of real flowers, but agree that, as a practical matter, faux flowers will hold up better, particularly for outdoor and longer weddings.  When I posed this question a couple of months ago, MarinBride made the lovely suggestion that you could pass of faux flowers to your future daughter/daughter-in-law for her wedding down the road.  There are also just tons of cool hair flowers - you can go for the more realistic ones (see, for example, www.latebloomerboutique.com), or for the more vintage-looking bohemian ones that you can find on etsy (see, for example, Twigs & Honey's online boutique on etsy).

I agree, a silk flower is going to be safer.  Real flowers can bruise easily (esp any sort of orchid), plus the heat from your head, oils/product from your hair, and any outside heat can all contribute to wilt it prematurely.

OH, thanks for the link to Late Bloomer's!!!  I've been looking around at various sites for a red rose hair clip myself, and they have some beautiful stuff!

For me, I would make the decision based on the sentimental value.

If you want to save it as a memento, I'd do fake. But if that doesn't matter, I'd totally rock the Real Flower. There are millions of flowers to chose from that will hold up for the entire day. But really, it depends on the type of flower.

IE: Orchids are thick, sturdy and for the most part well hydrated on it's own. My FMIL has about 200 Orchid plants in her backyard. We had to travel to the Philippines earlier this year for a funeral and thought it would be nice to bring a few orchids with us. Nonetheless, they survived all 16 hours on the flight to PI and a 3 hour shuttle drive to the city of Zambales. They still looked the same as when we cut them prior to leaving.

thanks ladies!  i think i might do both..if the florist can give me a good price i'm going to see how it holds up and switch if it dies?? ..but the link JDWedding provided has gorgeous flowers!

kohler..i just a got a draft of my album.  april didn't let me keep the images just a proof gallery to view the photos, but i love most of them.  of course we're our own worst critic and saw all the fat bulges and wrinkles.  still i thought they were fun and looked good..  i have to say that your album layout and pics are one of the best i've seen so far!

i have used real in my hair and fake! the fake always hold better... if you buy a good quality real touch flower honestly it is to hard to tell it is fake.... when i have used real they wilt and brown 2 early! good luck....

I, being the Etsy shop-a-holic, ordered a custom made piece from Etsy seller Myra Callan of Twigs and Honey.  I loved my hair piece!  It had the perfect size comb and stayed put.  I never had to worry about if the flower was wilting.  I also ordered my FG's headband from her as well.  She's 4 years old and LOVED it! It made her feel a part of the wedding party.  I'm  glad I ordered it as opposed to a real flower because now I have it as a souvenir of the wedding day!

Only thing is she has a waiting list right now.  So if you have time, order from her soon!

If you do decide to go the fresh flower route, cymbidium orchids are probably the best ones to hold up.  Gardenias are the worst!  My florist suggests to buy two...one before the ceremony and then changing it out after.  Especially if you're wearing it underneath the veil where it can take a beating!  Veil on for taking pics, pulled back, then on of the ceremony, pulled back for the ceremony, etc.

I wore fresh cymbidium orchids in my hair and not only did they last all day and night, I wore them two days later for our TTD shoot.
