Recipe: Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits (No Yeast Required!)

Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits because I hate working with yeast. My Grandmother taught this to me.

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F

Grease 9" round OR springform and set aside

2 cups sifted all purpose flour + 1 cup to sprinkle on surface

1TBS baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 vegetable oil

3/4 cup buttermilk (You can make this with lemon juice and whole milk 1 tablespoon per cup of milk. Stir well and let sit for 10 minutes before remeasuring for required buttermilk.)

8 TBS or 1 stick Butter softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla/almond extract

1/8 tsp cardamom (flavor enhancer) Optional

Combine Flour, baking powder and baking soda and sift together to mix

stir buttermilk and extracts until well combined

slowly add dry ingredients to the wet until combined well.

You can now switch to a dough hook or knead dough on a lightly floured surface

Roll into a rectangle 15 x 8 inches

spread butter over the dough

combine sugar and spices and mix well

Sprinkle evenly over dough

Roll like you would a jelly roll and SLICE 1.5" wide slices

Place in baking pan bake until lightly browned 15 to 20 minutes

you can make a powdered sugar glaze or use frosting if you desire

My husband and kids love them and tell ne how they taste better than the name brand in a can. I sometimes add Nuts finely chopped or orange and lemon zest to give it the Warm Christmas feel.

They also freeze well if you want to make well in advance.

I love this! I am going to have to try this recipe for my hubby with some ice cream! He tries to pretend like he is not a junkfood junkie but he is!
