Resetting stones in a new design

Hi ladies!

Neither DH or I were particularly happy with how my wedding bands turned out...long story short - he had my ering custom designed but we didn't have the money do also get the wedding band to match at the time. The one we came up with I thought I loved, but I'm not crazy about it now, and the jeweler did a really bad job of soldering the bands, there are ugly gaps that we didn't realize at the time that we shouldn't have accepted.

Fast forward to now, we are more financially stable and want something I really love...but want to keep at least part of the set we were married with. So we decided to put the stones in a new setting.

Anyone have any experience with this? I've read differing accounts - that it may only cost the resetting fee which is pretty inexpensive, or that a new custom setting can be as much as a brand new ring. Anyone know anything?

Here's my old ring and the style I want:

I'd like something similar to this

I had a ring redone and let's say it cost more than either the stone or the ring should cost brand new. It was not worth it. I was so mad at DH when I found out how much it cost. I was really mad at the jeweller too. I yelled at him and I made sure I told all my firends not to go to him!

I looked into getting my ring straightened so that I could have the straight wedding band that I wanted.

I went to a local (and fabulous) jeweller and to completely change the shape of my ering, re-dip the white gold section and reset the stone was just under $200, so I guess it all depends on where you go.

I would shop around or ask friends/colleagues for recommendations for local independent places.

Seriously Nicky - $200 would be fantastic!!! Does what I want to do sound similar to what you had done?
